AE101 GTZ Brake onto AE92 non gtz

Postby solitaire » Tue May 05, 2015 9:45 pm

Hi,

I need to rebuild my rear brake caliper and remembered i had all the bitz from the gtz in the garage, so started tooling around with the twin pots.

101 Brakes = AE101 GTZ Brakes
92 Brakes = AE92 GT Apex brakes

Question 1:
The rear brakes from the 101 seem to bolt right up no problem... but as they are slightly bigger i believe i need to have the matching front 101 brakes or my brake distribution will be thrown off and potentially lead to rear lockups - Correct?

Question 2:
I have done a lot of web research on putting the 101 brakes on the 92 and i thought it was going to be too hard as the disks wouldn't sit on the hubs snugly, but:
- When i test fitted the disk fits just as snugly as the 92 disks.
- I machined a small part of the caliper bracket away as documented online to stop it fouling on the hub housing.
- I then grinded the 101 disk down to see if the pad would sit nicely on the disk if the disk was machined down to allow the caliper to fit when bolted to the factory ae92 caliper mount points.

All seemed to fit nicely, based on this it seems like a new pair of disks with 4 or 5mm machined off the outside edge will see it fit nicely and bolt up, it even fits in my 15" wheels with about 10mm to spare.

Can anyone think of anything I am missing? or has anyone done this before?

thanks guys.

AE111 front hubs to make all bolt up, No Machining
Can do bolt up setup to AE92 slotted rotors, rebuilt calipers ready to install

fits 15" not 14"
brake distribution will be fine as twinpots run same master my research found

Ahhhh from my research - but not with all the actual parts
Use front brake disk off earlier model Prius (the 4 stud one)
Same thickness as twinpot disk but it's smaller diameter - so don't have to machine disk
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
