4age blacktop with link storm no spark, help please SOLVED

Postby tim_blair » Wed May 13, 2015 1:22 pm

My 4age black top failed to start

its a blacktop with link g4 storm, fully customised and worked engine
has a petronix HC flamethrower coil, standard igniter,
car har been running good for a few years with no issues.

there is no spark coming off the coil. i even tested this by holding the coil terminal and a earth while cranking but didnt get a shock...
engine cranks over fine but wont start.

(i recently put some old petrol into it about 15l that i had left over from another project, i dont know if this has any thing to do with it but just thought i should mention it)

the last time i drove it was about 5 hours before it stopped working, it felt a bit slow on the throttle response and a little bit laggy on acceleration but still drove fine. i got to work and parked it, then came to move it a bit later but it wouldnt fire up.

today i got a factory coil and igniter set from pick a part. pluged it all in but still not luck, i even disconnected the battery to reset the ecu

any help will be appreciated
i would also like to see a schematic of the ignition circuit if anyone knows where to find one

Laptop + usb cable then check if the link has a good signal from whatever crank angle sensor setup you have.
Reality: A nasty hallucination that is caused by excess blood in the alcohol stream.

Taking the battery cable off wont reset a Link.

As above - plug in and make sure its sensing the engine is rotating.

Send me your tune if you get really stuck so I can check the triggers are setup right

SOLVED

so after plugging a laptop into the link i discovered that the link was failing to read trigger 1,
i then swapped out the dizzy
but it still didnt work (no spark when holding the lead to earth)
so i checked again on the laptop
and it said that it was reading trigger 1
so i swapped the coil for the original one
and it was now making a spark but very very weak hardly able to jump a 1mm gap
after $&#$% around with extra jumper wires going to earth and positive all over the place
it finally made a large spark when the positive was connected directly to the coil positive
and then from then on it was fine
my conclusion is that the cam position sensor in the dizzy was $&#$% , as was the coil, and i suspect a weak or oxidised wire or terminal somewhere...
