Best nuts for exhaust manifold/turbo?

I know some people have problems with exhaust manifold to turbo nuts/bolts coming loose and a bit of research says there are several solutions that are commonly used for this.

K Nuts

I believe they are use once then throw away type nut.

Copper plated Steel Crimp style

Can be used a couple of times maybe

Nord-Lock Washers


Since my manifold will make it a complete pig to get to any of the turbo flange bolts once everything is in the car and assembled i'd kinda like to do it once on the bench, and not have to play with it or worry about it coming loose until the turbo or motor goes pop. Anybody have any input on which of these options works best? Or suggestions of other options?

Also, does anybody in NZ stock these things? or am i going to have to pull them in from the interwebs.

Nords are good, Ive used those before with no issues.

EDL, Anzor, Hylton Parker etc will have them

Had this issue on my vr4 I had years ago, I drilled a small hole all the way through the nut and stud once the nut was tight and put a small split pin through it, never happened again.

Bolt Shop are who i was recommended.
Cant remember the nut i was recommended/got but http://www.boltshop.co.nz weren't too bad. It was a high-temp equivalent of a Nylock nut.

Wouldn't piss around with any sort of lock washer. On aircraft gas turbine engines, if it isn't lockwired its' normally a locking nut similar to your k-nut, slightly ovaled in the thread with a plain washer underneath.

Had a google, this is pretty spot-on IMO..

I've had a lot of success with the ovaled nuts like MrOizo linked , they are pretty cheap so I just use new ones most times I remove them , though I have reused them without any problems

Cheers, going to order ARP stainless bolts, and probably go with those k-nut type nuts for now.

Really had bad experience with boltshop, specifically the prices. They are bunch of ripoff artists. Everything is overpriced by 50% to 100% (compared to other places like EDL for bolts, or Wairau Engineering for King Tony stuff). Didn't even bothered to reply to my feedback.

They sold me 1/2" washers as M12 "substitute" and charged me double as EDL cash sales price (I went to EDL to get correct washers). Their prices on King Tony stuff are outrageous, even more than RRP on King Tony site.

Def go to EDL, they are the biggest supplier in NZ so have the best prices.

since using the copper plated nuts ive never had any exhaust/turbo anything ive bolted together come loose again. def recommend using them!
