20v ae85 no spark

Postby d1 mule » Wed Aug 05, 2015 3:27 pm

hi all,

I have a silvertop 20v in a ae85 that im trying to sell.

I was going when i brought it, i have since ripped the engine out to swap front x member and suspension over then put the engine back in (this was about 8 months ago).

(now) thing is is doesn't spark anymore, there is power to the igniter and coil and all wiring is continuous to the ecu

I have tried different coil, igniter and dizzy to no avail

I installed a SQ rwd water line system and rooted the o2 sensor while removing the engine, apart from that its all as it was. I cant see any wires / earths off anywhere

im lost

any ideas????

Cheers Shannon

Is igniter bolted on to chassis? i.e. is the body of the igniter grounded?

ran a new ground from ignitor and coil to the -ve terminal , still no spark.

i measured 10v between the 3 ecu earths (4 brown wires on a circular crimp (1 from the o2 sensor)) and the -ve battery terminal which seems pretty odd.....

I would say you have an earth problem?

To get spark from a toyota all you need is
the dist signal to the ecu,
The ECU to be powered and earthed correctly,
and the coil and igniter wired up.

There is no other sensor that can stop spark,
they can affect the timing but will not stop it from sparking.

Like he ^^^^ says. If the ring connector was bolted to the head/inlet manifold/engine
then there should be a good earth path from the ring terminal to the battery negative.
Engine via earth strap to the chassis, and earth strap from the chassis to the battery.
The potential difference should be next to nothing.

You could try hooking up a jumper cable from a solid engine earth to the battery negative
to see if your chassis earth is causing a problem.

ive checed all the earths and run additional earths to no avail.

CEL isnt hooked up unfortunately.

Gonna try another ECU tomorrow, if that doesnt work ill either burn it or put it in the shed till next time i come back over
