Toyota Wish General Info

Postby Willdat? » Mon Dec 15, 2014 8:29 am

After 4 years I've been away from Toyota ownership I'm back with an exciting Toyota Wish! It's Z model which means it has the widebody kit which is good for nothing apart from winding up my wife about all the poor non-widebody Wish owners and their various inadequacies.

It's a ANE11W, which means it has the 1AZ-FSE (D4....) and CVT, uh oh...

It has zero service history so I'm going to assume nothing has been done but it was incredibly cheap and drives well (only 86km, so it should).

Has anyone had any experience with these? (search came up with nothing) In particular any preventative maintenance issues I should be on top of for the next 40-50km.

CVT and direct injection make me nervous.

Cheers, Will

Good old Nelson with 95 being the highest grade pump gas you can get easily...

Is it worth using seafoam (or equiv) as part of preventative maintenance or wait until issues appear?

Also should I change the CVT oil if I assume it hasn't been done already?

I haven't had a toyota CVT myself (only honda) but i would change the cvt fluid, first thing I do when I buy a car is do the transmission fluid because it's almost always neglected.

I've had a 1AZFSE driven Toyota (Gaia) for >2 years and it doesn't miss a beat mechanically - 91 Octane and all. (I do occasionally detect a misfire at idle, but it's such a minor thing that it never factors as a problem).

Seems to go nicely.

Have put 30,000km on ours, no complaints.
Did CVT fliud at 80,000. Thought it looked pretty fresh.

Just be careful of the chrome trim at front of bonnet, People are always braking them, WOF guy damaged mine. Easy to do when opening.

You're not wrong there, we sell a bunch of them at work. And at $195 + GST (new) they're an expensive piece of plastic to replace.

Responding to myself on an old thread, hah

Having moved back to Wellington and now in a position where i'm commuting further and being a little more held-back speed wise (yay for all the roadworks on SH1 outside Wellington) i'm now getting slightly annoyed with a minor misfire, or something, when i'm up to cruising speed at about 80km and the car is tootling along at ~1500-2000rpm with no 'work on' as such.
There's a random but pronounced little bounce that feels like a misfire, probably in the same class as the earlier comment regarding misfire-at-idle, I never notice it when the car is under acceleration.

Noting the comment on the other thread, wonder if I should try a higher octane fuel? Still running 91 and have done forever, i'm actually getting nearly 100km/tank more than I was in Auckland, due to my longer commute distances... i've gone from around 460km to 550km on ~52L of fuel, which i'm taking as a win.

I followed a wish around highlands park in the track day. I was impressed at how it handled, less body roll than 1.5l corolla.

I'd certainly give some higher octane fuel a trial for a few tanks, worth a shot anyway. We run 95 minimum in our 2AZFE Blade, 91 is good for mowers though :P

LOL yeah.

I'm pondering now whether to try 95 or go straight to 98 - I usually buy at Z (fuel vouchers from Countdown) so 98 isn't an option if I want to keep my $0.04/L :P

Will probably run a few tanks with 95 and see what the deal is. I think my 'misfire' is probably pinging, and i'm being foiled in my expectation of what that normally feels like by relatively modern cars with decent suspension and soundproofing :P

....

Or get yourself a Smartfuel card from BP or Caltex and get 6 or 8 cents everytime you buy with other offers to 10 cents every few weeks.
See ya

The Z model has double wishbone rear suspension - to be honest I think car sickness would prevail before I managed to noticed the difference! I run my Wish on 95 only and get around 12 km/L around town, up to 14km/L on a trip.
