85-89 hilux surf rear window question

Postby ct176 » Thu Oct 08, 2015 8:12 pm

Has anyone here got a 1st gen hilux surf?

Just picked one up and wondering about the rear window. It goes up and down as it should via the centre console switch, but only when the keys are in and turned all the way around to start up, not just the ACC setting.

I can also put the window up via the tailgate lock with the key when there's no key in the ignition.

I am wondering if I should be able put the window down with the key in the rear lock? or if the centre console switch is the only way to get it down

Thank guys.

Putting the key in the rear door should let it go up and down,
provided all the safety's are correct,
which if it works from the centre console switch they should be.
I would guess there is a problem in the rear door switch or wiring.

The switch in the centre console is actually controlled by the master window switch in the drivers door on some models,
and so will only work with the key on like normal electric windows,
but should work in the on position not the start position?
They normally don't work in the acc position.

Do the rest of the electric windows work normally?
try switching the window lock switch on the drivers door control and see if it makes a change.
