Toyota Wish headlight fault

Postby TimM » Wed Oct 14, 2015 9:54 pm

Hi all - hoping some electrical whiz-kid can help me out here.

I've got a 2006 Wish and the headlights recently stopped working properly. They work fine when I pull the switch back to flash the lights (ie they come on full beam), but on the low/full/park settings I get a very faint light, which doesn't change at all between those three settings and isn't safe to drive with. Same issue on both left and right.

Happened suddenly a few days ago, and I can't think of anything that might have triggered it. All of the other lights (indicators, brake, internal etc) are working fine, as are the radio, AC etc. No problems with the lights before (though I only bought the car ~6 months ago).

A friend and I have just pulled out and checked pretty much every fuse from both the engine and internal (behind glove box) fuse boards, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with any of them. We've also taken out most, if not all, of the relays and none of them seem to make a difference to what the lights are doing.

Any tips on what to look for next?

Thanks,

Tim

most likely the headlight switch is faulty. replace the whole switch stalk.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Not sure about the HID headlights sorry. How would I tell - could post a photo if that helps...

The HID headlights have a black inner housing instead of chrome, and there'll be a yellow sticker on the top of the headlight housings which can be seen when you open the bonnet. They usually only came on the XS Sports model (one with the factory bodykit). If it looks like this one on our Wish it'll be HID:

there is a fault with the NZ new corollas 07 onwards, where the headlight switch stops working, usually a couple of taps on the end gets the lights to turn on,
but the switching unit looks like it the same as a zze120 series corolla, so could give you some options for testing
HIDS when they start giving up the ghost they come on for a bit then switch off, reccomoned buying the bulbs from ali -express as they are far cheaper than the ones that Mark and I can supply
