Valve keeper removal tool

Has anyone used one of these tools to remove valve springs with the head still on? Do they actually work?

Where in NZ can I get one? I can get one from the USA so that might be the go.

Also what is the valve spring size of a 3SGE?

Yes hammer and a socket with a magnet in it to remove is simple. What about reinstalling them? I'm going to replace the valve seals to try slow the oil consumption down.

The paper idea looks interesting. I haven't heard of that one before.

I have used this tool with good results on 2TG engines. Its very quick.

Helps to use an extension bar and socket over the tool to provide more push as old springs can be quite resistant.

I have removed most of the engine parts to do the valve seals and cam belt all at the same time. GEN2 3SGEs are so complicated just to remove the valve cover. And being in an MR2 is a bit more fun. It's enjoyable work though.

Still need to buy the valve tools and get an air compressor adapter to hold up the valves. That's coming in the mail, custom built too.

No luck with the tools and industrial guys. 3 forms of contact and no reply. Even after ringing twice and talking to two people I've had no response. The valve collet installer would have been useless anyway. Only works for valve springs that are exposed.

I've tried the paper method with no luck. The collets keep popping out. Anyone got any ideas? I should have just ordered the one I linked first. Anyone in Wellington have this tool?

Ok ignore that. Paper and some pliers works.

I ended up going back to using a socket, 150mm extension and a slide bar with the paper to reinstall the valve springs. Need to fold the paper over at least 6 times to get it to work.

Thanks Jason T for the link. Took me 1 hour to do the first one but did the last 5 in 50mins. Not a fun job. I'm hoping it helps with oil consumption and doesn't make it worse from a failed install.

A friend of mine has one, I only found out AFTER I had done this. Was a waste of time anyway as the piston rings are the problem so I replaced the engine with a better one.
