1jzgte
Quick question. Non vvti 1jzgte. 3inch exhaust, pod filter, fmic. Runs 8psi. Is this normal? I have heard it should boost creep to 12psi. Had 3 different intercooler set ups in past. All run 8psi.
Re: 1jzgte
Sounds exactly like my setup and has always run a solid 12psi, no creep or anything.

Re: 1jzgte
Have you tried different gauges?
From memory I was hitting fuel cut on a similar setup. Then after doing the dump pipes it was running about 16psi with no boost controller.

Are you hitting fuel cut at all?

Re: 1jzgte
Thanks. Nope no fuel cut. I brought a gizzmo electronic boost controller so i might chuck that on and set it to 10psi and see what the gauge reads? Just wanted to make sure everything was all ok before I put the controller on. Thanks for your help as you said, could be the gauge.
Re: 1jzgte
seems low mate. Check for boost leaks. sing out if you or your local garage don't know how to do this(think air compressor and regulator).
bog standard , mine was 10 psi.
with your mods, should be boosting 12 or more, possibly even triggering the 13.7 psi boost cut on a cold night.
all the best.
you can check your gauge for accuracy, by using a air regulator to put a known pressure into your hose that feeds the gauge, and then see if the gauge reads low.

Re: 1jzgte
Sweet cheers! Each intercooler set up ive had have run different piping so would hope its not a boost leak but thats not to say its not leaking elsewhere. (in manifold etc). Also do the air bypass valves regulate the boost on these or they are simply a plumbed in bov? (I havent had a good look at it.) i am just using std set up.
Re: 1jzgte
On each turbo there is an actuator that opens a wastegate. this is what controls the boost.
The blow off valve is different , and it is a plumb back, and it is the diaphragm type thing on the alloy inlet pipe to the rear turbo.

Re: 1jzgte
Sorry i understand that they have the wastegate to control the boost. I was meaning if there was a problem does it push air back through inlet but they just rely on fuel cut? I thought the 4agze i had years ago had a similar looking bypass valve that opened when above 8psi to push air back through inlet (obviously superchargers need this as they dont have wastegates) but the valve looked similar so was thought it was worth asking the question. all good. I have a boost leak or my gauge is shot. Cheers
