In today's money it is closer to $500 ;), also it was not including painting (as I was getting it resprayed due to sun destroying paint on the roof).
Regardless, it didn't look like the panel beater spent much time on panel beating as in 20min of my "panel beating" I got much closer to original and I don't have proper tools.

Ah I misread your intial post, and thought it was a year ago, not a year after the first repair. Can't see them giving much of a toss sadly.
Motor and box out of the Trueno, getting good at this pulling 100 series things apart

After 3 years in England, using trains and rental cars, I've moved back to NZ and bought an adventure wagon!

A Mazda 6 in fact. It fits many mountain bikes and surfboards!
My requirements were 2000+, 2L+, auto, petrol, wagon, cruise control, aircon, towbar, roof racks, around $5k. I looked at Toyotas but there is nothing but the Avensis and Camry, which are boring as hell. A Legacy would have been great but I don't need the 4WD and associated costs.
I did try a Altezza Gita which was 2JZNOSHIT powerful but tiny inside.

After a month the 6 has been great. I immediately put a full set of RE003 tyres on it which help it handle and grip wonderfully.

You missed Caldina GT Four, they seem pretty roomy, and 3SGTE walks all over L3 motor.

Yeah, did consider those. The 1st gen ones all seem to be modded and worn out, and the 2nd gen is expensive. Also the boot isn't huge and with turbo and 4wd too expensive to run.
I would have bought a performance wagon if it was going to be my only car, but a sports car will be purchased this year... wallet willing.

Put new rims/tyres on my 1964 Rambler American. 235/60 14 on 8 inch steels, 195/65 14 on 6 inch steels for the front. Went full bogan spec with white writing on the rears.
Then I threw a bunch of ignition bits at it, rebuilt/cleaned out the carb and then turned the key over. Fired up pretty easy, tweaked the timing and sounding good. Forgot how loud it is, been off the road almost 14 years. Twin pipes, twin cobys dumping under the diff with a crossover pipe under the the gearbox.
Now I just need to rebuild all the suspension and brakes and start driving it to work every day again.

This is not really today but couple of months worth of intermittent effort:
Image

BTW once the paintjob is complete I will fix up minor things and put it up for sale, what would one expect for this thing:

1992 AE101 GT Apex Trueno
~250k
Silvertop with blacktop cams (pointless mod)
4-1 Some JDM collector with fat tubes (another pointless mod)
blacktop flywheel (another pointless mod)
Clutch replaced at about 220k (genuine clutch+plate+bearing, rear crank seal and machined flywheel).
facelift throttle bodies (another pointless mod)
znoelli slotted rotors at the front (yeah...)
spoon style rear muffler (jesus, what was I thinking?)
6 Speed box with torsen LSD (out of some BZ-R), with new bearings, some new synchroes and new crown and pinion (replaced about 8 years ago?). Don't worry, I did not fix the box myself, subtech did (I let them do it as I did not had enough experience to check the crown/pinion mesh pattern).
Crappy homemade paintjob (will guarantee to look good at >3m away). See pic above.
Comes with optional cold start rattle (250,000km of high RPM glory).
Oil consumption is less than 1L per 5000kms (no need to top up between 5k service interval ;)).
Red stuff in the radiator.
It hasn't had any issues in last 8 years or so, being driven by my sister (lies! the little plastic button on the brake pedal broke and killed the battery last year, it has been fixed).
1 yo battery (NS40ZL size).
Stupid cold air intake with pod filter in the guard/bumper area (awesome inlet noise).
Best fuel consumption in the city I got was about 8.6L/100km.
Clapped out budget monroe shocks (crappy from factory), replaced about 100k ago.
Cambelt replaced at about 220k (proper job: seals, rollers, water pump, etc)..
It passes WOF no problem.
Got warrantable tyres with about 3-4mm thread left (Bridgestone playz) on black steel wheels (from a Toyota IST). 14" Alloy wheel spare :).
A/C is kaput, being R12 unit not sensible to fix it. A/C pump is also missing clutch. Pump is currently working as very heavy idler.
Way faster than 2005 Vitz RS ;).
The paintjob cost me about $500 in materials (I am not going to count my hours ;)). when I started I did not know that sister will get a new car soon.

Autocrossed the Corolla on Sunday.

Apparently I managed to win the event, which is a bonus. Though to be fair, I was helped a LOT by two of the usual fastest guys having a bad day out.
