Spark plug for my 4AGTE
Hi guys. Been running BCPR6EIX-11 iridium tip with the factory distributor without issue. Now that Im going with 3SGE coil on plugs, will I need to change to something else?
Re: Spark plug for my 4AGTE
The BEAMS 3SGE runs BKR6EP11 plugs standard.
The 3SGTE uses BKR6EP-8 plugs standard.
The gap on the plugs you have is quite large for a boosted engine. 1.1mm vs 0.8mm.
I guess you'd only need to change if you are getting misfires and it's down to the plugs.

Re: Spark plug for my 4AGTE
Its a weird issue. Im running them in wasted spark config. Testing each cylinder independently, they all fire ok. Testing each wasted spark pair, the engine runs on two cylinders fine. But on all four, its like its running on three. Just wanted to check if my plugs might be the issue, but if it runs well on two cylinders, I doubt thats the case.

Re: Spark plug for my 4AGTE
Try a set of copper plugs gapped down to test it.

How/why are you running them wasted spark ?

Re: Spark plug for my 4AGTE
I sent the Megasquirt down to have its four ignition outputs upgraded, and it came back with two. Sigh. Its gone back down now to be fixed, after I complained about it.
Just wired each trigger wires together with two coil trigger wires (1-4, 2-3).

Re: Spark plug for my 4AGTE
The conditions inside the combustion chamber have not changed just because
you have changed the ignition system (so long as they are "dumb" COP's). The
spark plugs will not know any different if they are getting the same spark energy
at the gap. If the gap was too wide you might expect some breakdown at high
rpm/load but not at idle.
What you wired up should work. If each pair of cylinders will run without missing,
but there is a problem when both pairs are run at the same time, there could be
a bad join somewhere in the circuitry. If so, you would expect the "missing" to
become worse as the rpms go up.
Full sequential should get it sorted

PS: The AW11 s/c FSM specifies NGK BCPR6EP11 for a stock 8psi engine. I tend
to agree that 0.80mm gap is preferable when you up the boost to 15psi or higher.

Re: Spark plug for my 4AGTE
Great, thanks for the info. As an aside, while 3SGE coils seem to work, they are a little short, so I might go with 2NZFE coils, as they are longer.
Re: Spark plug for my 4AGTE
Got some 1SZ-FE coils now. A bit taller, same connector and pinout, and give great spark with the BCPR6EIX-11 plugs.
