That's Firefly_NZs one. White?
Anyone else have their eye on the FT86?

Might want to check the rules for images in signatures too and adjust the size of yours to suit. Pushing the limits a tad..

Sorry, i love the LFA, it stands for everything a toyota technician believes in. Its advancement and development in technology. at peak RPM It sounds like a thousand women orgasming at once. its a statement. Its toyota saying, you know what we can be the no1 selling car manufacturer in the world, and we can also build a supercar that blows the pants off most others, and is also a drivers car.
I can see you are very passionate about your Toyota's and I was not trying to troll or upset you. I apologize.
I have seen what it has done and as a keen Toyota fan myself I have followed the LFA progress over its development. In my humble opinion Nurburgring lap times are not a yard stick and given enough practise and setup, 10 years in Toyota’s case, a test driver who has done 10,0000 laps of a race track is going to be fast. Whilst the LFA is fast around the ring it is not spectacular in the real world and it has not proven anything, a Dodge Viper or Chevrolet Corvette costing less than quarter what a LFA does will do similar times.
To me a car of that caliber costing $700,000+ needs to come from a company who has true race pedigree or at least prove how good it is on the race tracks of the world, when the LFA takes out a race I will be impressed,. Surly after 10 years at the Nurburgring they could win the 24 hour race, or even make the top 10?
Sure it has sold out, rich people will buy anything if they know other rich people cant have one, like Veyron, no real drivers buy them, only celebrities, .com millionaires, Oil Arabs etc.
Personally, and this is from a Toyota fans point of view, I would have sooner seen Toyota spend 10 years developing sports cars for real fans and real drivers, us, for what it cost to build the LFA they could have designed and built a replacement for the Supra, the MR2, the Celica and offered them to everyone at a good price, instead they have built something that we can’t even buy?
Going back to topic it is great to see they have invested money in the 86 though and as said before it is cool to see a new sports car from them, they should have given it to us ten years ago
I see you mention race pedigree there this is a huge misconception in my eyes with regards to Toyota if your honest out of all car manufacturers Toyota is involved and has won in several different classes of racing.
With regards to the LFA why not let Toyota's best and brightest engineer what they believe to be a all round drivers car and technology that will most definitely be seen throughout the Toyota/Lexus range going foward.
You are aware with regards to the Nurburgring 24 HR results the car is detuned accordingly and is penalised by runnning pretty close to its factory road weight you are aware of that are'nt you???
The LFA that runs in that race is 1450 KG runs restrictors to keep the power below its 562 HP that car runs in the 490 odd HP range and is also rev limited 7500 rpm another restriction under race rules.Have a look at the cars that win there round the same 480-490 HP but in some cases can be 200-250 Kg lighter I'm guessing you have'nt figured that into your post either.
A good example of this tech going foward is the carbon weave machine that wove most of the body parts onboard the LFA that thing right there is a work of art.
I'm afraid I find your arguement flawed.

I am not arguing, I agree its great engineering, its almost art, how the carbon fiber machine works, I get very excited.
Toyota have done very well in motorsports, I remember that time in the 90's when that German company TTE did well in Rally (don't mention the cheating), they also spent a ton of money trying to win Le-Mans and then went on to invest lots and lots in F1 with amazing results. All this is evident in the LFA.
24 hours of the Nurburgring should be easy for them with 10 years and a development center there.

You do understand they are also racing the 86 there also you must think if the LFA is a waste of time going there you must have the same that they are wasting there time racing the 86 also nevermind the developmernt in handling and reliability they are'nt a trademark of Toyota at all..
Well then it must be a cake walk for BMW Porsche and Audi what thats there own backyard they must have been going there for 50 odd years with cars testing.
Lexus have only been racing there since 2008 so its 5 years of actual racing and to run against cars that are 250 kg lighter and the same HP and still finish around the top 15 is really that bad when you consider the handicapping they face.

Conversion under way shortly apparently...
I think what you'll find is that some dealers have the GT86 + Aero Kit and are replacing the rear wing with a TRD ducktail spoiler.
TRD86's are built to customer order ie. no test drive/demo versions.
How'd it look in Tornado Grey? I quite liked that colour.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, perhaps the dealer had his wires crossed! This one is just an 86 with no kit (at the moment) so maybe it's to demonstrate what you can get with a few ticks on the options list. I'm a big fan of the Grey, looks far nicer IRL than on Toyota's website...

So your saying that Porsche, Nissan and Ferrari test drivers have all done less laps around the ring that Toyotas test driver? And so what? Once you've done a few hundred laps (which I'm sure every manufacturer test drive has done.) your not going to get any faster just from doing more laps. And as for setting up the car for the track, the 911 model has been developed for this track over the past how many decades?
The Nurburgring is a combination of almost every cornering, braking and accelerating condition etc that there is, and you don't consider it a good yard stick?
/end rant
Who cares. Car is so out of most people's reach it may as well be a unicorn.
Rather hear what people think of something that isn't the stuff of dreams (like the 86's now that there are a few kicking about).
Anyone using one as a daily?

we have an auto 86 at work as our demo car. unfortunately there is a pretty huge demand for them. we were supposed to get a gt86 manual but it got snapped up.
I did the new car features course through toyota which was a great insight to the masterpiece that the 86 is!
will be interesting when first servicing comes about.. they are designed to run a 0w-20 oil which wont be cheap. Also, 90k service requires spark plug replacement. The plugs are custom one off, RRP $70 each. need to jack the FA20 up out of its hole to get the coils and plugs out.
