One of my mates just got a new 4agze motor put in his car, but there seems to me a weird noise coming from the engine bay. Almost sounds like a combination between a shafts that turning but isnt greased properly and the aircon goin.
He was told by the place that put the motor in that it was the supercharger, but his supercharger didnt make the noise before the engine transplant (using his original supercharger). I had a listen today, the noise is coming from the supercharger/alternator area, but as far as i can tell the noise is louder near the alternator! He is using his original alternator aswell.
Another thing that is bothering me is that the crank pulley (oversized), is wobbling a bit, not sure if this is normal or wat, but it didnt seem to do it when the pulley was on my car!
When we went for a drive the sound seemed to disappear when revs went above about 3000 or 3500, but got louder from 1000 to 3500, but then disappears! When be boosted it there seemed to be no weird noises then, only thing that was strange was at around 6000 there was a screetching noise, i suspect this is the supercharger belt slipping though. As i said, i cant hear any weird noises when he accelerated hard!
Anyone had this problem or have any idea what it might be?

Try removing the drive belts ie. alternator, power steering etc belts and see if the noise continues, you will be able to run the engine like this safely for a short period of time but not too long as your water pump is driven by a v-belt. If the noise stops then it'll be coming from a belt tensioning pulley, alternator bearing or even your water pump etc. try and localise it.
If the noise continues then it is most likely coming from under the cambelt cover and likely to be your cambelt tensioning pulley.
When he replaced the engine did he replace the cambelt, tensioner, water pump etc?

fatke30
that strange noise?
hey dude check the engine mounts, the gtz im building had the same sorta thing as you decribed, and wen i looked around i found not one but two broken engine mounts
ive got that funny screcing nose as well from about 4thu rpm to 6thu rpm
since i have changed the sc
i can but it down to at least two things
1
its the sc clutch as the sc is a hell of a lot older than the car and motor its self
2
its the sc belt slipping at high rpm as it is a new belt i might just need to lossin it or titen it
as for the woobling crank pulley i would get that fixed now
resoan being if the pulley is of centre its going to ware the crank out as the pulleys do wiegh a bit
this will cause a lot of damage if left un-checked
