Trueno BZG Power
Hi
Have recently scored myself a 1996 Trueno BZ G, the 1600 20v black top 4AGE, 5 speed. I like how the car handles, however it does lack a little power down low compared to my old Celica 2.0l.
Wandering what I could do to improve torque and overall power? I have so far had the following options suggested:
-Spark plugs
-Extractors {the engine does actually have extractors, but not aftermarket}
-2 inch Exhaust
-Air Filter
Anything with the ECU i could change?
Cheers!

Spark plugs are a maintenance thing, and have affect on performance until you're into serious HP figures (or your old ones are completely r00ted)
AFAIK, stock 20V extractors are pretty decent, and not worth upgrading.
As far as NA engines go, unless you're looking at spending big money, just do the basics - as you say, exhaust and filter to start with. I personally dont believe you'll notice a huge difference, but any engine likes to breath a little better.
I'd be looking at a 2.25" exhaust, k&n panel filter (or similar), and see how you like it, and work from there.

The Trueno badges are stealth...
You know, ever since I took this car home from the yard, ive been seeing the Levin version of it {BZ?} everywhere! The only thing I can see from the outside is the exhaust is smaller - What IS the difference between these two cars?

2" is plenty big enough
See the animal in his cage that you built. Are you sure what side you're on?

Probably, but I'm yet to see any evidence that going bigger reduces power. All evidence I've seen simply says that bigger is better, and the most efficient way of running the engine is right off the headers, if possible.
And yes, I know all the theory, but it doesn't really stack up. At the end of the day, the stock exhaust would probably be fine, after removing major restrictions (eg cat, mufflers, tight bends.)

to peak power, there is a point where getting bigger makes no difference.
But torque is affected greatly in an n/a car.
bigger isnt always better, and 2-2.5" is suitable for 2-2.5l.
I ran a 2.5" system on my 2.8 and i noticed a little less low down torque.
but peak power was up 6kws at the wheels

you also forget the fact than an over sized or poorly made exhuast sounds shite on a 20v ,i hav heard some shockers b4.depends if u like the 20v tang or not i spose
most of the 2.25 ones ive heard dont actually sound too bad.
out of curiosity , hav many people tried running nos on 20v's before?? i hav seen a few hondas run it with a lot of success , and it actually isnt that costly for the gains you make.

Sure, but he's after performance, not wank.
hehe, exactly. I want more power, preferably not more noise, but i suppose it comes along with it.
HRT - yeh, i see what you mean, but for a 1600? It wouldnt really make a difference would it?
The standard exhaust system on a bzg is already bigger than 2"....so upgrading from that would prob be good, my mate took his cat out and he said that improved the torque down low.
what I would do it take out all the resonators/cat and muffler, and fit a nice free flowing muffler on and maybe 1 or 2 19" coby resonators with the built in expansion chambers (giv more back pressure=more torque down low) with 2 1/4" pipe
