Police Radars?

Post by Zyros »

Hey, do police radars actually work?

Like, could you pick up cops targetting you or sending out a unit to your area if you were for example.. street racing, or whatever?

I would of thought it would be to hard to use, as there are so many frequences you wouldnt know what one.
Or do cops only use one frequency, cheers.

police radar? as in just a radar detector?

they work yeh, and help you out every now and then, but if your doing the ol traffic light races, it wont help you as you blaze past at 120 in a 50 lol.

THEN you need a jammer... which is illegal...

but they work :D Of course, then hell pull you up coz he didnt get a reading... lol

Radars and Scanners are two different things.

Radar - unit which beeps when it picks up Police cars, police lasers, and annoying Electric doors  , shows you relatively how far away the signal is, and in some what direction its coming from.

Scanner - handheld reciever/walkietalkie type thing, with this you can listen to what is being broadcasted over their, and many other channels etc.

all up the cops have 6 methods of detecting your speed
there are only 2 common ones though, the radar detector and the laser timer.
the standard radar dectector, like the V1 etc only pick up radar, its the most most common.
blocking them is illegal and will get pulled up for it even if you are doing 40 in a 50

220 over the bombays is $&#$% fast. 8O

I know at least some (if not most?) cops will keep their radar off and turn them on when they think they see a speeding car. So people with radar dectors cant pick them up untill they have been caught.
They even have remotes so they can turn them on and off from outside the car.

I have a detector built into my head ;)

Honestly, it happens to me all the time. I get a sudden urge to check myspeed, find I'm a bit over, slow down and then within about a minute, I see a cop.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Yea i was talking to a ex-cop mate of mine, and apparently the cops radar emmits a resonably quite but one of those really $&#$% annoying noises-high pitched squeel hense possibly the reason that cops only turn their radars on if they think that you are speeding.
When i used to have my old radar dectector this was noticible, some days on the exact same stretch of road it would pick the cops up before i could even see them, other days it would only pick up a small blip when they were about 300m away and then nothing...

Best protection-- V1 (nothing else is worth the money IMO) PLUS 20/20 vision helps

Yup, V1 is the way to go.

Mines pretty good, picks up well over 3kms away on the open road, and if a cop is comming towards you "blipping" his radar at the cars a few km's in front of you, the V1 will pick it up, where others will ignore it, thinking that its just "noise".

And yeah, def gets laser, but yup, its almost too late then. BUT you CAN jam laser LEGALLY...well, if you say its a side effect, not the main reason of your lasar emitters...

or you could just slow down and stop street racing altogether 8)

but yea, its true the police only do short bursts with their radar on and off, and yes, if laser comes up on the radar, and ur over the limit, your pretty much fuked, lol

My detector saved me a ticket on the motorway in the wekend. picked him up in front of me parked out of sight. So it just payed for its self... Some parts of the motorway should be 120 kph.

And lazer jammers are legal. thats why you can buy them on trade me. You can do what I did and ring a police station yourself and ask.

To defet police laser....but you could argue that its for making animals run away from infront of your car, ie, the infared light that they can see...

They can't arrest you for stupid ideas?

V1's start at around 300-400 on Trademe, watch for stolen ones though....

Shops retail them for $1200, trademe seems to be around 800 new.

Again though, like above, only radar worth buying.

can get them at shops with a good warranty for as little as $1050
the ones on trademe are often stolen or out of warranty and have been dropped and only work sometimes etc
it is however the only one worth getting
