My guess is because the blacktop was made with the specific purpose of being the penultimate 4AG before it too was discontinued and replaced with the larger displacement 2zzge.

I dunno, can't find much on the net and I doubt you would in english anyway.

Someone will probably prove me wrong though.

One a similar note...

I hardly EVER see GTZ levins/truenos around anymore....

I cant remember the last time I saw an ae101 GTZ, and it would seem that ae92 GTZs are only things of memory. :?

Agreed there, I see a few every now and then, and most are abandoned on somebody's lawn, minus the motor and box. It's a shame, something that has a little more room would sometimes be nice, especially if it has supercharged power.

I've got an ae92 GTZ, it just looks like a gt apex now

I think the reason they stopped with the supercharger is that a good 20v has about the same performance minus the torque.

Plenty? I can only remember about 4-5 ae101's and about 3-4 ae92's off the top of my head...

compare that to ae111's and jeezh....

i know they are relatively the same performance wise, but the gze has it all over a 20v in potential, i cant figure why toyota would stop it, i mean what would you prefer stock standard out of the factory?

-ae101 20v silvertop gt-apex
- or a ae101 gtz

id take the gtz any day

sure 20v are powerful but to make them more powerful you need help from a gtz (pistons) 8)

I bought a GTZ Levin (AE92) last year after owning one as my second car ages ago and have been offered semi reasonable money for it twice now and it isn't that tidy... yet. The earlier shape looks nicer than the 101 and 111 I have always thought, nicer factory kit and better stance. Rest assured this one will not be going anywhere for quite some time.

i like 92s stance, real low and sleak but the 101s still do it for me :D

GTZs being called rare huh, hmmm well you could buy mine and then you could be privileged to own a rare car!

There are plenty of GTZs around Christchurch, although there aren't nearly as many facelift ones around

:? i thought the ae92 levin had aged BAD. looks real dated

emissions.... sales.... plenty of possible reasons.
the decision to skinny up the ae111 rods maybe....
jap cars around that time tended to be high end screamers..... not torque machines like the 4agze (relativly speaking)

Totally agree that it has aged, but it seems to have a wide, low, flat shape that appeals to me. The 101 without a kit on the front seems to resemble a "fat bellied pig" to me... to high front and rear and chubby in the middle. Not trying to offend any 101 people here, just my warped sense of style. The 92 looks more "purposeful".

Have owned one of each, definitely prefer the styling and interior of the 101 (not to mention the 4AGZE in the later model 101s is generally accepted to be the "better" model from factory, being map sensored, with oil squirters etc). The 92 felt a lot lighter however, and I wasn't quite so worried about throwing it around a bit ;)

There are still a fair few GTZs around Auckland, drive passed a couple of them every day on my way to work.

There has been a surge of GTZ's on trademe recently, and a little closer to home 3 of my mates recently bought themselves GTZ's. All got them for around the 5g mark, all were standard barring little things like mufflers, and all were in pretty crappy condition. I was all into the idea of buying one untill i actually drove one and realised they feel alot faster than they are ;) In saying that they still look hot and have the power there when you need it, but now im after a 4agze aw11
