fliping bonnet forward...
Anyone here modifyed a bonnet so it opens forward not back
looking at doing it on my curren. not sure what to search for actuley suicide bonnet? lol if anyone has any pics would be great if u could post them up

basicly im thinking...
modify the front latch so that once the cable is pulled its open there will be 2 slot hinges and a spring that then lifts the bonnet 25mm once the cords been pulled that way the front lifts and misses the light's when it swings open. the back will have a similar latch that pops open right away to with a hook made up into the bonnet. Going to start looking at this tomorrow and saturday after the sand blaster has finished removing the sealer from the seems in the engine bay hopefully going to deseem some of it and fill excess holes and stuff. Thort about sending it sideways or spliting it but that dont realy apeal to me evan thort about having it swing to the front screen then tilt strait up and down, but i like the look of how the old skool mazdas did it. So would like to make this work will just mean to work on some things will have to remove bonnet but i normaly do anyways

i would look at BMW hinges as they lift up when you release them then lift if you know what i mean as in they will clear your lights ect

im thinking like the 1988 318i is whats my mate got that douse i dont know alot about BMW`s ither as far as chassie codes go but i know those brackes just bolt in & i think theres a gass strut at the front that pops it up when you pull the cable

E30 BMW (as above) hinges are a good design. they work really well and it does look good sitting forward/open however theyre kinda on the chunky side so could be hard to engineer into a space that wasnt designed for them

update, have decided to change the way im doing it...
There will be reinforcing put under the rad support rail then we have got long hinges that will be bent up to follow the rad support panel witch will be bolthed thru both that and the support we put in. then will be bolted into the bonnet, Wont need to be certifyed as its classed as a bolt on panel the new latch will be bolth to were the factory strut brace meets the firewall.

there is going to be a peace of steal layed under the rad support bar... if it bends this and brakes it well dam... there are also to uprights off the chassi that connect to the rad support and if there is still movement once its on i will put steal up there to that will stop it rocking they mite argue about me bracing the parts with steal if they do meh ill just get it certed when they cert the 3sgte engine, but hay ****** toyota in ***** didnt noticed a 3sgte in a toyota curren =) why would they notice the braces lol or the fact the bonnet opens the other way

On My BMW there are brackets at the base of the windscreen that brackets on the bonnet slide into as it closes.
They are there to stop the bonnet going backwards in a crash and doing nasty things to the people in the car
, I therefore agree with Mr Revhead , talk to a cert guy or a WOF guy before doing it if you want to legally drive it on the road .

if the bonnet moves over 500mm back to cut my head of thats a major crash... i dont think the bonnet is going to be my problem in a crash like that heh, there is no reason to consult a certifier as im not removing the crumble zones, and a bonnet is classed as a bolt on panel u can do anything to a bonnet bar put a bonnet scoop on without certing it, Not that hard of work at all will only take about a day to get it working right.

a 30 kmh crash will be enough to shove the bonnet back.
we're not saying dont to it or trying to be negative
we're trying to make sure you follow the rules and do it safely.
i think you will find the authorities have a different view from yours.
you are removing crumplw zones
adding metal and bracing to the rad support area of a car is doing just that.

I'm not saying don't do it , just check with a WOF guy because you are changing the crash structure .
Bolting or welding a steel plate under the rad panel , both strengthen the panel thereby changing the crash structure .
I'm not saying it will be a problem , but why find out after you have done it that it fails a WOF when if you had done it diferentlly it would have passed 1st time .
