Is it a hydrolyic clutch or or cable clutch? Cause mine is the cable clutch and it makes a noise from the spring (i think) which pulls the pedal back after releasing the cutch. I dunno,, is it from inside the cabin or from the gearbox?

OK the front gearbox mount is torn and the rear one doesnt have the bolt through it so its just sitting there not bolted up. Would the mount not being connected make this noise? I just couldnt get the main bolt back in it was such a pain. Its a hydraulic clutch. Would there be any other things that would cause this noise?

Both of them would make the sound, fix them first then look for other problems.

sounds like your problem. needs rectifying before you try fix anything else.

when you press the clutch you transfer weight around on the engine and gearbox.you usually end up rocking it between the mounts and the knocking you hear is metal hitting metal.
one time i snapped an engine mount and what alerted me was a knock when i clutched in to change gear but only at certain speeds.

I've had the same problem, got all the mounts replaced and it still happens, are there any other causes for it? get an unusual clunking sound, and i feel the engine shift in the mounts.

Ok, I'd be looking for play in suspension, drive shafts, wheel bearings and stuff, if thats ok, then maybe the damper in your clutch plate is worn and has play.

All though all most every manual corolla I've driven, and thats alot now, has made bit of a noise from the mounts even with fairly new ones. I think it's just a poor design.

I have the same problem in a ae111 bzr, but when you release the clutch slow its fine. it also needs the clutch replaced (slipping), have the parts (tgp) will let you guys know once it has been replaced if this solves this.

Could it be the shaft, that the release bearing slides along, has worn un-evenly?

I have this same problem too. Where's the best place to start looking for broken mounts?

Cheers
