Battery box in the box holes...
The new beast I have has unfortunatly been previously owned by a clever child.
like most they have done some very clever work on the car, including moving the battery box to the boot (ae101 levin)
I'm pretty keen to redo it, as theres currently nothing holding the battery ie the two 8mm odd bolts to support the battery is not present.
Yes I know this is illegal - hence why I want to change it asap...
wondering whether I could skip the welded bolts suggested in the tutorial in favour of installing the battery box to the immediate left of opening the boot, but simply drilling holes through the boot bottom and bolting everything directly to the car, rather than to a piece of MDF.
keen to do this myself however as the warrant is on the 7/2/2008 needs to be right an legit the first time round...

battery doesn't need to be vented to outside if it is a sealed unit.
and as postfach said, use big washers to distribute force.
Watch where you are drilling as some cars have box sections which cannot be accessed from the other side.
Also look at covering up the bolts with a lick of paint or silicon to prevent corrosion as well
The welded bolts were mainly there for the stereo install. In other relocations I have done, the box has been bolted down to a false floor in the boot.
Another alternative is if you can take off the bumper and slip your hand down the chassis rail to secure nut/bolt, holes into the rail would be a very secure mount.

Thank you HRT - it explains alot actually - couldn't understand how the past owner had been 'getting away with it' assumed it was a result of a custard slice and beer warrant...
hmm either way have decided to do this the right way first - might have a yarn to the guy that will be doing the warrant on it just to make sure he won' do a bung about it.

Thats what I was thinking as well!
Hence when I do my friends relocations, I always take the extra steps lol.
An unsecured batt in the back is just a disaster waiting to happen!
