Transmission oil cooler for engine oil
Is there any reason why using a transmission oil cooler as an engine oil cooler would be bad?

No, they are mostly designed for the same pressures, but transmission coolers normally have alot less flow so the inlet/outlet/piping tends to be smaller.
If you are happy with the size of the tubing on it, go for it. If its too small it will create more pressure drop.

Thanks for that. I'll check the fittings and see if they'll suit.
Also in regards to mounting it, would it pose a problem if I attached it to the front of the intercooler? Or should I think about putting it elsewhere?

Re: Transmission oil cooler for engine oil
Notice how it's one continuous piece of pipe, meters/yards long compared it one for oil that has many paths from the inlet to outlet. A log manifold in & out with a dozen or more narrow tubes in between. The narrow tubes may seem smaller but they have much more surface area to be able to dispose of more heat faster.
