Fitting Wide Alloys
Hi all,
I was looking at getting some low offset wide alloys for my soarer and was wondering what peoples veiws are on rolling guards and pulling fenders vs getting widebody fenders put on. Also, will changing the offset by so much cause major handling issues?
Cheers
Edward

my personal opinion is guards rolled well look better than wide body, but if its extreme wide body is 100000X easier (than fabing new arches)
having very low offset wheels move the curve the wheel takes through its turn further away from the center of rotation, increasing "scrub" which according to race people is a bad thing, that being said iv run 0 offset wheels and offset RCAs and never had a problem.
unless your planning on being a super duper serious race car driver i wouldnt worry about it too much

I personally went widebody with my supra as long as the kit is quality this is an easy option as mines just riveted on depends on if you like the look of the kit
what wheels do you want size/offset?
Do you plan on a full size tyre?
camber to pull in wheels or flat?
style or perfomance more important to you?
are you truly prepared for the costs?
honestly widebody 10k+ if you use cheap wheels and paint. Work wheels decent rubber and show finish double it
Edit was going to say look at my sig I know from 1st hand experience but have just seen my love note about size lol

Cheers for the responses.
The reason I asked was because I came across some alloys that I like which are cheap.
They are 19x11 p20. I would like to have them flat (no camber) and as full sized tyre as possible. I am not going to be racing the car, so I guess that it is more for looks, but I also dont want something that is a pain to drive. Also, I am not into spending 10K on it.
I guess it sounds like I wont be able to make them fit for the amount of money I would be willing to spend. I think I would have to pull the guards by about 25mm to get them to fit. Would that be expensive to do too?
Cheers
Ed

25mm is quite alot seen a picture of a jzz30 in nz running 18x12 allround cant remember offset eihter 0 or +17 he was using 275s? and a lot of camber
the wheels you want would be 33mm closer to the guards than his so maybe doable with an aggressive pull and a 275 smallest of the legal size for an 11 I dont know what sort of sizes people run on soarers so not much for me to do calculations on if it were a mk3 on the other hand
i could help alot more
this should be your freind http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
enter your current offsets and the ones you want and go and actualy see how they will fit

Yes, I would like it to be legal. What are the illegal options?

True, but i've yet to hear anyone say they failed a wof due to their wheels having a different offset to factory. Anything running really low (if not negative) offset is technically illegal going by that.
Also isn't the camber tolerance only for cert?

Cool, thanks for all the info guys. Any idea how much getting fenders pulled will cost?
If it is expensive, I might invest that money in some higher offset alloys

Dude, fellow Soarer owner here.
Try http://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-400-300/290699-official-wheel-and-tire-fitment-guide-for-sc300-sc400.html for a good look at what the guys in the states run.
Just by a guess, i dont think youll ever get those wheels under the guards without a pull or running some camber.

Cheers for all the imput, I tink I will give the ultra wide rims a miss and get ones that fit without modification to the guards.
