TRD LSD on TM

Post by ®usty »

My brother found this last week, which I'm pretty interested in.

ST202 S series gearbox TRD LSD

The seller says its brand new, I think it might be to good & cheap to be true. Is it genuine or just their old diff in a trd box?

It may be new but it looks like it has surface rust from moisture in the air bit the plates inside could also have that rust on it. I wouldn't go there aye.

If you know the unit you're after and a part number, PM me as my father in law has a brand new TRD LSD still in its box that he no longer needs.
Details he's given are vague but if some one is actually interested, i'll look into it further.

Cheers.

Even if it's second hand that's still a good price for a TRD LSD.

Id go for it, just know what you are looking for when you go to pick it up, and dont hand over cash if it looks second hand or not to your expectations.

Being an ST803 it's at least 10 years old as this number was superseded by ST804 pre 2003.
A new LSD comes packed in a greaseproof wrap with grease coating so it's possible the grease that you can see is original even though it looks 'used' & black.

If interested, you'd need to check fitment. The unit we ran in our rally car (S2 ST202 3SGE & box) was an ST000 from memory.
The ST803/4 fits Celica ST162 & ST182. It fits the Corona & Camry ST202 models but (I'm presuming) with the FE motor not the GE.
It'll also fit SW20 non turbo.
Others with more familiarity with interchangability of gearbox parts may be able to advise further.

At $500 it's very cheap though.

not a new trader, registered 2009. could be their 2nd account, or just dont buy/sell much on TM?

part number for the ST202 is 41301-ST803 according to the printed TRD parts catalogue

fits SS-I SS-II and SS-III which use the S54-0## gearbox regardless of SS or factory LSD, just doesn't fit the early spec SS-II SS with E56-07C Viscous LSD gearbox or GT4

I was orginally keeping an eye out for the factory helical LSD, until this came up lol

pretty good for the price see as they were Y96,600 ($NZ 1,430) brand new
thanks for the comments so far :)

Non super strut model only according to their online catalogue. I know it didn't fit ours.

it does sound a bit confusing but you have the 94/95 SS-II ST202 superstrut which came with the E series gearbox. Which is the one they are talking about on the TRD page. Not to get confused with the 96-99 SS-III ST202 superstrut which came with the S series gearbox.

In other words you cant swap the S series LSD into the E series gearbox
and vice vicer

Yes, finding my notes again, ours was an SIII and the LSD we used was ST211.
Good luck.

that definitely looks unused. The lsd unit that was put in my st182 box had been sitting around a few months. Should have some oil on it, but there is alot of moisture in the air. Stuff gets surface rust.
