AE101 SuperStrut 275mm Disc Centre Bore Size

Post by Kiwi-Corolla »

I'm piecing together parts for my twinpot front brake conversion and the last parts I need are the brake rotors.

However, before I go shelling out money on some nice new shiny discs I need to know if the AE101 275mm SuperStrut front disc brake rotors use a 54mm centre bore or a 55mm centre bore. There's so much conflicting information on the internet about whether it's 54mm or 55mm so I need someone who has actually done the swap to confirm the exact size.

From my understanding, the AE101 uses a 54mm centre bore size and the AE111 uses a 55mm centre bore size, but I can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere! Any help would be great :)

Correct. I have had massive issues with this situation recently as my front left hub is a ae111 abs one and the right is a normal ae101 hub. The abs one is slightly different and I had to have my centre hole machined slightly to get everything to fit

Cheers Matt. Almost every catalogue I've seen online, even from major brake manufacturers, states that the AE101 centre bore size is 55mm, but I always thought it was 54mm like the AE92's, and everyone on the internet seems to have a differing opinion.

I'm going to be using ST202 Celica carrier brackets so that I can retain the original 275mm disc size rather than have it machined down to 260mm. That's another topic that isn't widely documented on the internet so I decided to take some photos this afternoon after I picked up a set of ST202 carriers from Pick-A-Part :)

Sweet as. My brakes are a bit of this and that. The caliper is a st202 twin pot but the carrier are st202 single pot. I couldn't find anything at ice a part to match what I had until I went to a wrecker and mixed and matched

Whats the number code on your st202 twin pots?

Combo should be, mac strut hubs, superstrut discs, st202 callipers

'Tis what I'll be doing on the track car

Interesting, I was under the impression centre bore is all 54.1. Pretty certain our caldina gt (which uses same brake sup front as st202 twin pot) is 54.1 too (and is ABS)

First I have read about 55mm centre bore

I think I may have figured it out. From what I can gather, Toyota changed to a 55mm centre bore hole in September 1993 for the Levin/Trueno and Febuary 1994 For the AE100 Corolla. My AE100 was built in 1993 so theoretically should have the 54mm centre bore size. Guess there's only one way to find out :)

My AE101, which was built in Sep/1991 has 55mm centre bore.

AE101 GTZ and Superstrut models with twin pots have the 275mm discs with the 54mm center hole while the AE101 with single pots have the smaller discs and 55mm center in my many experiences with them.

Crap, there goes that theory . On ToyoDIY it shows two different part numbers for the front discs, and which year they're compatible for. At first I thought it was because the later models starting coming out with ABS from factory, but even in 1991 ABS was an option on the AE100/AE101 models.

Thanks Brad. Looks like I'll cross my fingers and go with the 55mm centre bore discs instead, which will likely be the AE111 version.

That involves too much work, making a thread is far easier :P. But in all seriousness, I might do that this weekend, although all signs are now pointing towards 55mm. A mate in England is doing the exact same swap this week and just bought some 55mm ones today, so he can be the guinea pig :)

Yeah sure. My ones say 38T25 AISIN. They were removed from an AE111 BZ-G SuperStrut.

Why not just use the st202 twinpots? 40T27

I thought you were but just reread what you were doing re swapping the carriers

haha Agree wholeheartedly, so many random facts lying around. I will add to this with my own findings...

In short I am trying to combine, ae111 MS hubs, with ae111 ss discs, with st202 twinpots...on coilovers for an ae111, on an ee80 with a redtop beams 3s

I agree! There's so much skewed information on the internet about the twinpot upgrade and very little information about being able to retain the original 275mm disc size so I figured it would be handy to take a few comparison photos as they often speak louder than words :)

I got the AE111 twinpots for a pretty good price ($75) but I actually didn't know you could use the ST202 twinpots until I did some research on the swap after I bought the AE111 calipers. Yeah I'm only using the carriers from the ST202. I'd imagine the AE111 twinpots will be just as effective as the ST202 twinpots, so I'm happy to stick with them :). Anything will be better than the nana-spec single pot brakes I've got on there now

Has taken me ages and a lot of halfstarts and re-evaluations along the way. I am happy where I am heading now. But thats not for this thread.

I presume the 40T27's suit a 27mm thick disc rather than 25mm, so they are wider?

I think I saved the specs on the area of pistons to compare, can't recall if there was any piston diff between the 38T25's and the 40T27's
