Rust repair ae86

Post by hopesgone »

Hey guys,

recently boughtan ae86.
Just stripped the back and realized theres a lot of rust.
Under tail lights, quite a bit. The hatch is fiberglass so thats okay, but the hatch opening thats under the weather strip has some rust too.
These parts, I'm confident I can deal with myself which I'm okay with.

Big question.

This area behind the B pillar. ie behind the "side" of the car.
What can I do to reach in there to tidy that part up?

To do it properly you'll need to cut that section out and replace it with new metal. Won't really know how bad it is till you start cutting. Rust is fun!

Most of that stuff doesn't seem to bad to get to as your going to have to cut it out.

some of the bits that are harder to get too (second to last pic I think) you might have to tidy up as best you can and then rust convert it...depending on how bad it is.

Have fun though mate...car cancer...gotta cut it.

oh and once you have welded in new metal and its all painted etc....use some cavity wax to help prevent it from occurring again.
