altezza etsc fuse blows? Doesn't start?

Post by TRD_ZERO »

I recently bought an altezza. Now my problem is when i connect the battey the hazards stay on, dont flash just stay illuminated. I have no dash lights nothing works. Also found the etsc fuse was blown it blows everytime i connect the battery. Picked it up drove around for a few days no problems. Thought I'd give it a nice clean while having the stereo on for and hour or so but then it died. Battery was flat so put it on charge. Left the car outside for a few days. Tried putting the battery back and Etcs fuse blows and hazard lights stay on. Could the alarm be doing something to it? Anyone have any ideas?

Nice problem solved! Someone has aftermarket power and earth leads on it so can't distinguish the colours. Can't believe I didn't think of that. Thanks

You're lucky that all you blew was a fuse.. I've seen that mistake destroy cars.

Yeah well i guess that isnt the end of my horrible story. Im getting a leak coming from the gearbox from the front now. Looks to have blown the 120amp fuse with this whole situation but the car would start and drive but didnt shift well once that fuse was changed the car runs normally but leaking out the gearbox now. what could have given way around the front of the gearbox to cause the leak any ideas as i havent had time to check. Looking back at this makes me think i shouldnt be touching it. Ive got a feeling ive damaged something on the gearbox causing it to leak.

the 120A main fuse blown means that more than 120A has gone through something backwards.
I would say your alternator is also stuffed.
The other thing we see often when cars are jump started backwards is a stuffed radio.

whats the leak? (ie what kind of fluid) if its coming out from between the engine and the bellhousing it could be the rear main seal, or it could be something leaking onto the bellhousing from above and running through it. or it could be the front seal on the gearbox input shaft.

plenty of options really :)

Correct stereo says no. Not too fussed about that though. Altenator still works so thats good for now. The oil falls on the exhaust and and smoke smells weird like nothing ive smelt before. Unless the burt oil burning outside of the combustion chamber smells different to oil burning inside of the combustion chamber because i know what that smells like. I smelt the dripping oil and im pretty sure its gearbox oil. The weather has been pretty bad this weekend so havent had a chance investigate any further.
