Hi all,
I'm just n the process of buying a NZ new 2011 Corolla GLX. It's done just under 40k and seems to be in immaculate condition throughout.
The dealer is strongly suggesting I buy an Autosure policy. Due to the age and condition of the vehicle my thinking is not to buy this, but I'm also aware that this car has a lot of electronic stuff, cruise control, trip computer, dual zone climate air, bluetooth etc. and I'm just wondering how reliable that stuff is.
Also are there any common issues with this model?
I know anything can fail at any time, but my past experience with Toyotas is that they are very reliable. Would I be most likely wasting my money on a policy for this vehicle.
Keen to hear all thoughts...

Car yards will usually try to get you to buy a policy as then they don't have to pay for things themselves if you strike trouble.
I know a few people who have decided not to buy autosure or similar warranty off a car yard,
and then the car yard had decided to give you warranty anyway and pay for it themselves.
Not saying it will happen, but it can.

Re: 2011 Corolla Reliability
Unlikely to give you major issues. Corolla's have stayed pretty reliable over the years.
Not as unkillable as they used to be, but still should truck on for many years, and many hundreds of thousands of km's.
I had a 2002 Corolla (same shape + engine), and it was going strong at 490,000 when I sold it.

You have good cover under the CGA. Especially for a car less than 5 years old and with less than 40km. The dealer won't want you to know that though.
Car yard wants to make money on the warranty, then not see you again if a problem arises. However if one does arise, and you hadn't bought a warranty, you call them and ask what they are going to do about it. Depending on the problem and the length of time since you purchased the car and kilometres traveled, they are obligated to sort it out.

Re: 2011 Corolla Reliability
i have regular dealings with autosure.
my understanding is that euro drivers are heavily subsidised by those in japanese cars.
this is obviously a sweeping generalisation, and as you have noted - any car can be a bucket of poo for no obvious reason.
