Sump install tips
Sup all, just after some tips for making the sump install on my 4AGE a breeze. Never done it with the engine in the car before, and being two piece with the windage tray, I can imagine its going to be quite a chore while on my back and with gravity working against me. Ive seen someone on Youtube using studs to locate the three surfaces correctly, which sounds good to me. Any other tips?

Re: Sump install tips
I have done it a few times in the car, and it was a pain in the ass all the time. I don't remember if 4AGZE (I have done that as well
) requires a complex motion to get around the strainer....
Studs are good idea.
Get good quality RTV (I had great success with threebond) and make sure the surfaces are dry.

Ill hand you tools, and tell you what a great help youre being
Actually, anyone got a wire wheel grinder I could whiz the sealant surfaces over? Would be much easier than the razor blade im using now.

Re: Sump install tips
When I did mine on the soarer, I used threebond and held the sump on with my head while i put in the bolts in.... was a nightmare to do, but didn't leak.
You really do need to rope someone in to help.

Re: Sump install tips
Or Three-bond everything in place and hold it there with a jack while you put some bolts in, rather than your head....
See ya

Re: Sump install tips
Yea, lol, using your head does sound kind of stupid....but.... a series of factors combined to make using a jack impossible. Car was on a hoist and there is a cross member that stops you from getting the sump off from below. So the engine was jacked off the engine mounts with the jack built into the hoist, and the sump was taken off and passed up through the top of the engine where the exhaust manifold would normally be. Sump cleaned, three bond added and then passed back down through the engine and head used to apply pressure....Oh the good old days.
