Blade 2.5 cvt transmission

Hi. It's been awhile since I've posted in these forums.
The wife is looking at getting a new car and quite likes the blade. How is the cvt transmission in these things?
I hear nothing but how unreliable they are.

Since I have ever the option should I just stay clear or what should I look out for?

AFAIK The blade has the 2.4l 2AZ-FE engine.

Have you looked at a blade master, it has the 2gr-fe that is a much better engine and doesn't use much more fuel as it is more efficient. I also believe the Blade Master has a conventional 6 speed auto.

We have had one for a few years now, four I think. Probably put 60,000km on it. Have had the CVT fluid and filters done and apart from that just normal servicing. Mrs would kill me if I said I was selling it to get something else. Damn nice cars IMO, interior wise especially. Would have gone for the Blade Master, but it wasn't really worth the extra 3k at the time, given it was just going to be used as a daily. Fuel usage (going by computer at least) has sat at around 12.5-13Km/L.

I think it's one plus of the CVT, you might take off at 2,000 rpm (guessing, I don't drive it enough to notice), and it will sit there until you get to cruising speed then might drop back a bit. If you're aggressive though it will start at higher RPM then stay there until you're cruising again. For spirited driving i'd take a manual any day, no doubt. But the CVT is smooth and when it's sole job is to get from A to B in comfort, it works. Has the power to overtake with ease, 3.5 would have been nice, but it's not my daily, so it wasn't needed. The 3.5's will be a lot more reasonable now than they were when we purchased.
