Doesnt need to be transferred to another unit of measurement, if "mm of pingpong ball travel" verifies the problems and can show you changes for better or worse if you try to fix the issue.
mm of Pingbong ball travel might already be a standard unit of measure in Thailand, but you might not want to ...

Re: 4AGE crankcase pressure - whats normal?
I've got a spare map sensor for datalogging purposes hooked up to my ECU.
I plumbed a vaccum line into my catch can and found that although there was flow through it, pressure build up (or pressure drop) was nil through the whole rpm range etc.
I didnt measure directly from the crank case though ...

Re: Tricking a 4age 20v silvertop ECU
Interesting results.
I decided I CBF with factory ECU anymore so bought a Link.
Which has been an interesting experience so far.
My car runs a MAP sensor now but I can keep the MAF there for datalogging, or if I want I can ditch everything right up to the TB.

Re: Tricking a 4age 20v silvertop ECU
Remember that your car doenst have a MAP sensor though... It's generally airflow meter or MAP, not both.
Either way, I look forward to results, best of luck.
Remember though, if in a worst case scenario and it doesnt go how you were expecting. Bad results do not mean you've failed.

Re: Tricking a 4age 20v silvertop ECU
It is my understanding that the O2 sensor is used under closed loop operation. Which is light load. Under acceleration the O2 sensor is ignored, going into open loop operation. This falls on base fuel maps installed onto the ECU.
At which point closed/open loop occurs in regurd to MAP/throttle ...

Re: Tricking a 4age 20v silvertop ECU
Yep I know what you mean... Especially when OEM is generally concerned with a larger number of variables than just making power.
Either way, it's something interesting to nerd over that doenst cost me any money

Re: Tricking a 4age 20v silvertop ECU
Hmmm yeah, you can make observations but theres no way to really know any more about it unless you did some pretty extensive datalogging.
But some casual observation is interesting for me, because I want to get an aftermarket ECU at some stage but I dont want to go to anything worse than the ...

Re: Tricking a 4age 20v silvertop ECU
Hmmmm so I wouldnt want to test this on my beams motor because it seems to run like crap on anything but 98 anyway.
Bbbuuutttt my Toyota Echo with the 2nz engine runs a 10.5:1 comp ratio, incredibly happily on 91 octane.
I guess I could datalog some load/rpm points and check the ignition advance ...

Re: Tricking a 4age 20v silvertop ECU
When I fitted the correct knock sensor, the ignition advance at low load pulled back by 5-10 degrees and audible light knocking was gone. And idle became stable when previously the car would stall.
It fixed an idle issue, hesitation issue, and improved fuel economy.
I was more than surprised by ...

Re: Tricking a 4age 20v silvertop ECU
Cheers!
While we're somewhat on the topic (a bit off topic from first post)
I've had a few different scenarios with my car, that I've been able to analyse with OBD2 to see what the ECU thinks which has been interesting.
The first problem - a persistent knocking under light load.

Re: Tricking a 4age 20v silvertop ECU
Hey Flannelman.
Interesting thread, I've done a lot of investigating factory ECU behaviour via OBD2 monitoring (which doesnt work for silvertop unfortunately)
Honing out the intake runners though after the throttle plates makes for a lower airspeed towards the port, not higher.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Spent about 5 hours today getting to the root cause of the the problem with my diff having end float in the pinion gear.
Turns out that the front bearing was getting tight on the pinion shaft after getting wound about 3/4 way on, and the spline for the flange was tight too when getting to about ...

There are different thicknesses even for the 3SGE rings, so it really pays to get the right ones.

Re: Help!! piston rings for 3sge beams
There were two variants of the RWD beams motor for compression ratio, so maybe the Auto motors (11:1) had a different piston ring part number to manual motors (11.5:1)?
I've got some pistons somewhere here you can compare against if need be.

I dont know why you're wanting to make problems for yourself, I would wash my hands of the whole situation as quickly as possible.
