Help!! piston rings for 3sge beams

Post by James Sen »

So I'm doing a standard rebuild on 3sge beams motor out of an altezza, I bought a set of genuine toyota piston rings, when i came to put them on the piston i saw that the 2nd ring and the oil ring are to thick and it doesn't fit on the groove. So i checked the the part (13011-88570) and thats the correct one listed for the engine. The pistons in the engine are the factory toyota ones.

So my question is that has anyone else come across this problem, or does anyone have this engine apart to compare the piston ring grooves compared to my ones, maybe theres something weird with my engine or toyota may have packed the wrong rings. can anyone help??

hey man thanks for the pic, it does look identical to my piston, do you still have the original rings for it, just need to know if the top ring is the same thickness as the 2nd ring.

Just measure the ring groove in the piston. Order some aftermarket rings with the ring sizes and bore size.

There were two variants of the RWD beams motor for compression ratio, so maybe the Auto motors (11:1) had a different piston ring part number to manual motors (11.5:1)?

I've got some pistons somewhere here you can compare against if need be.

yeah thats what I thought at first but theres only one part number listed for the altezza beams engine, yeah if i can get a piston to compare with that will be great.

The 1GFE in the Altezza is also a 'beams' engine... haven't happened to get some 1G rings by mistake??

Measure the ring gap on the pistons.
If you put up some measurements people may be able to help a little more.

ok the ring layout on my pistons are 1.2 x 1.2 x 3mm and the layout on the toyota genuine rings (which are the ones specified for my engine according to the part numbers) that I bought were 1.2 x 1.5 x 4mm
