96 or 91 unleaded?

...but putting 98 in your stock bigport 4age is waste of money and gas. An engine designed for lower octane (87mon=about 91ron) will run better on the lower octane fuel, will have more power, and will get better mileage.

If you're running higher octane in your car than the manufacturer recommends, advance the timing a few degrees to make use of it, otherwise you'll just lose power and economy. Better yet, plane the head as well

As a rule tho, turbo or very high comp cars with knock sensors should always run as much octane as you can get your hands on. If the ecu doesnt detect any knock, it will let the timing run as advanced as the map will go and give you better power and economy.

yeah thats true, 9.4:1 is fine on 95

You rekon? If the timing was set to +12d then I have heard that it will make a fair bit of difference to performance etc. Besides im sure these motors would have been meant to run on 98 or 101 when they came out of the factory.

Set the timing up around 14-15 if you're gonna stick to 98, and you should get a bit more power out of it

basically if your car has knock sensors 91 will set them off and it will retard the ignition which means increased fule consumption and loss of power so yeh 96 will make your curren go alot better

yeh i read some where that the only four age designed to run on low octane is the blue top maybe it doesnt have knock sensors i don't no but the newer ones need high octane be it a tvis red top smal port red top what ever

as high as you can go which is 98 from a petrol station because then it shouldnt affect the knocksensors and as mr rev head said ur ignition timing will be sped up as much as possible from that fuel

It seems to but 98 is what my local gas station sells so that's what I buy. I don't really give a crap about the extra few cents cus its not as if I drive the car more than once a week.
