Bleeding the cooling system to prevent head gasket blowing ?

hey..
umm..yeah, just put my new engine and radiator etc in..
and i think it will need a bleed to get all the air out, how do you go about this, cause i havent done one before..

If you jack the front up to make sure the radiator to is the highest point (usually is anyway), put the heater control onto hot (opens up the valve to it) and pour the water in it should do it. I did that with my supra and didnt get any water pockets.

Yes do that and then while it is still up at the front run the car with the radiator cap off and keep topping it up as the water level fluctuates untill the fan comes on ( presuming the radiator fan works) then put the cap on.
Fill the overflow bottle and it's all set.

(unless it's a mr2 as they have a quite complicated procedure)

ye tryin to do a coolant change on the 2zz in celica is a rite prick to.

...and if its a new engine yoou should use water untill the head gasket has 'set', as coolabt has smaller molecules.

lets not turn it into a big discussion on how to top it up.

just put the shitt in. IT DOESNT MATTER what u put in 1st, or how u put it in, as long as the coolant fill the cooling system, THATS IT!

Shouldn't you be using the terms water & antifreeze?
Coolent would be whatever you end up with in the radiator system, be it water, antifreeze or a combination of both.

My toyota mechanic was telling me about something about warming up the engine with no coolant at all in it until it felt warm when replacing a composite headgasket to help it set.
Anyone know nething about this?

Ive never done that with head gaskets ive replaced over the years. It sounds a lil risky.

The called baking the head gasket to the block and head surfaces.It ensures a good seal.I have done it many times and never had any problems.Just run the engine for 1-2minutes then turn the engine off, wait until the engine has cooled then add only water to system.Add the anti freeze at 500-1000kms.
