40mm crank strength

anyone out there able to tell me how much weaker the ae82 40mm
crankshaft is. have on and am keen for low boost turbo setup


p.s this is probably the most informative site iv found to date

dont know any specific figures.. but they arnt weak.
a low boost setup will no tbe a problem. pistons will be a prob before crank

I cant say how much weaker the crankshaft is, but that is not the only difference to the latter models, your motor also has a weaker 3 rib block as aposed to 7 ribs in later versions, weakers conrods, gudgeon pin dia is 2mm smaller and the big end bearing dia is also smaller. I think the first generation 4AGE's were good for about 150hp, I would personally go for the 4AGZE or the Hi compression smallport red top motor.

what he has will be fine for low boost (i assume under 10psi?)

have you ever heard of a 4age block giving probs?

the trick is the tuning.

if i was gunna make a cheap low boost 4age id use a bluetop. easier and cheaper to find than the small port. and 4agze prices are insane. not worth the $$$

on 200,000kms motors running 1 bar on a t3/4...... the first things to give way are the piston skirts. This is with reasonable tunes (lots of fuel, low advance), but with plenty of track time.

crank + rods = no problem in our testing.

10lbs on T25 should run for ages if tuned right and block is reasonable to start with.

3 rib block isn't weak. I run a highly developed 4age race 3 rib with little issues. The atlantics also used to use the 3 rib as it was lighter.
But I would have to concur with the pick of a 7 rib smallport as a great start for development.

I believed the using the stronger 7 rib block was a good idea until I looked at it with the head off it. the water jacket goes between the piston walls and the outside of the block, so I don't see how the extra stength is worth the extra weight.
There doesn't look like there would be much force on the block in that area.

non tvis 7 ribs have the squirters in them.... this is the only advantage to this block imo... bigger oil pump can be put in bluetop block.... yada yada.
