power

Postby fxgt race » Thu Sep 14, 2006 2:43 pm

you just need to get everything right before going to a dyno, the power is there.Get a new 2 into 1 front pipe made up if you have a standard one as they are rubbish.check your butterfies are opening fully, check with the engine builders and see what they did with the cam timing.i did my petrol pump to make sure it was good and it wasn't.simple things that i missed before my first dyno run of $550 and changed them for another dyno run to gain another 17 hp at 175 atws.Your engine will come right .

Avgas or don't bother!

With that CR, he's more than likely to loose HP with avgas.

I don't agree with that. 11.8 to 1 is too high for our shit fuel. Just my opinion though. :)

You think it runs fine. :D Ecu will be pulling all the timing it can out and pushing more fuel through too.

Flame front is considerably slower running Avgas. Hence its ability to run higher compression without detonation. 11.8 in an open combustion chamber isn't that high. As such you are slowing the flame front, reducing the dynamic pressure at TDC and slightly reducing power.

Although I run avgas in both the Lancer and the Bunderson... I really don't believe in it. Both vehicles have been tuned to run on avgas and both have cooling issues and both are on the very edge when it comes to detonation. However I'd still be tempted to run one up on avgas and then retune it to run on 98. Bet the difference would be SFA, if not a small gain with 98.
I remember a mag article where they were forced to retune a rally car as avgas was being banned (I think its an ausi article) they made small gains by running pump gas which startled both the owner and the tuner.

BZR4AGE wrote:As for the dyno plot, I wish i have it too, but the guys didn't bother to get a print out because the gain was so little. all I know was before the engine was done it made 87kw atw, now it makes 100kw. Sorry redmist.

My blacktop with low compression in number 1 pulled 132bhp at the wheels on a dynajet. Thats a stock engine running a K&N and a Link LEM3. It sounds as if you have some issues.
30hp (which is at least what I would epect from that engine) might be hard to find in exhaust and a cold air intake. Perhaps an issue with cam timing?

Yes I agree, Cam Timing or maybe just a poor tune? Plenty of people think/say they know what they are doing but really don't!
