brake lines

Postby bluemaumau » Tue Feb 21, 2006 5:32 pm

ok ive got my donor levin (gt-apex) and im about to put the 4 wheel disk brakes (hubs) onto the wagon

the wagon has 2 front disks and drumies on the back.

obviously both the drummies and disks have fluid lines.

but my question is.....

should i replace the lines with gt-apex items or a the wagons lines identical?

cheers in advance

do you mean the complete line that runs from the engine bay to the rear wheels?

if so, no need to. they are the same. i had a look when i got my brakes off the trueno.

if i have time tomorrow ill take my wheel off and get a pic for you if you want, as i used to have drummies on the back aswell

just some questions:

which hoses did you use and what does the proportioning valve look like exactly? its it basically a T-Joint?

cheers!

Used the Trueno`s brake lines, and the proportioning valve is in the engine bay, mounted on the firewall near the middle I think. Should have one line coming from the resovoir (sp) and four going to each hub.

Hope this helps :)

20v rollaboy tells me that you will need the valve, as he had a incident the other night

should be swwet,
just replace the valve with the fx item
replace the hubs.

join the sedans brake lines to the fx's just were they enter the guard.

handbrake will need to be replaced all the way to the actual handbrake as it is one cable 8)

well that was ass!

really the only thing holding me back was the size of the hose line. so back to drums :/

physically and theoretically they should be the same. was right length and all that but didnt wanna screw into place. (its the hose end that mates up with the hard line from the chassis)... :?

might have another go another day but losing motivation for doing this fast :P

One thing that looked to be of concern also was the rear suspension arm - looked as if the bush was a little too wide to fit in it... hmmmm

another pinch-a-part mission might be needed :o

check to see if some over anxious mechanic tried the torquetillsnapsthenbackitoff trick. have seen plenty lately where the male fitting has flared inside the female fitting, making it very hard to undo, and near on impossible to re-fit.
