ARGHHH! Bits left over

Postby benj » Fri Sep 19, 2008 7:20 pm

Can anyone help me identify this part, which I assume is from my ST205? It was "left over" when the car was put back together!

The numbers are

23080-74030
196170-0240

My search via google and the parts database on toyodiy.com has not yielded anything useful.

Thanks

Going by the heatsink, I'd say it was a resistor pack for the
injectors...

Toyota calls it a Fuel Pump Register.

Great, have now found it on the toyodiy.com site.

Any idea where it plugs in? Shockingly noobish question I realise! And is it important as the car seems to be running fine without it.

If anyone's interested my research has led me to the following:

The resister is used to vary the output of the fuel pump. The car should not run without the resister in place, it will start and run for about 20 secs then cut out. Funnily enouch exactly what mine was doing before the auto sparky got his hands onit and bypassed the resister, which wasn't installed, so I now have to install the resister and find where he's run the bypass to sort this out.

The bypass will mean that the pump is running flat out all the time hence increasing wear.

Cheers for the help guys.

I don't think there's any need to worry about that. It's quite a common mod to bypass the resistor anyway, and I've never heard of any fuel pumps failing because of it.

interesting, i've got one of those hanging off the battery clamp. it was a leftover part when the engine went in and out- noone knew what it was and what it was doing. to be honest i'm still going to have to reread your posts to figure out!

pretty sure the only reason they fit the resistors to the fuel pump circuit is
so that the pump is quiet when the car is idleing at the lights,
just stops the pump noise as it's only running at 1/2 speed.

Bif the resistor in the bin if it's already been bypassed.

I think I will figure out how they bypassed the resister first, I have a feeling it was a bit of a "rangi-mod" and as such I may have to re do it properly.

I have a whole new weird problem now so I'll post another thread.

Cheers

Unfortunately I have no idea, it was someone who the mechanic who was reinstalling the engine called in when he had problems with keeping it running, I will try to find out without being to confrontational about it as the mechanic has done a pretty damn good job.
