Stereo Short Circuted **FIXED THANKS TO T.S**

Postby BZG_UNIT » Sat Oct 14, 2006 10:32 pm

Hey guys. My bro attempted to put a new head unit in an EP82 starlet NA. And he didnt earth it properly and has fried the wires. THe plastic on the wires going to the headunit started to smoke and we quickly disconnected it.

THese are the after effects:
-No power going to headunit
-Inside lights (on the roof) dont work
-Clock doesnt go. only when lights are on.
-Car doesnt beep when lights are left on or key is in ignition and door is opened.

Anyone know where the fault is likely to be? Ive check all fuses so not a fuse problem.

With your help i aim to repair all faults :) ... If that fails off to the auto electricitions

Thanks in advance :)

I'm 99% sure it will be a fuse somewhere. It's happened to me before  (not on my car thankfully)

He's possibly wired it up with the negative on the light wire (used in older stereos). Got test light? they always see the light circuit as an earth cos the filament conducts electricity back to ground... then you turn on the lights and...

most the wires got fried. The plastic melted off them in places. Ive checked all fuses. Plus one in the head unit. Could it possibly be a fault in behind the dash somewhere? due to the short circuting?

Sounds very much like the Dome fuse under the bonnet has gone.

Check more fuses. The symptoms all point to dome fuse

its really not that hard to just completely re wire the headunit...

just find all the sources again and run new wire to the speakers (if you want / need to), not hard.

and yeh, second the motion to never let ur brother touch anyones car again.
