PROPOSAL FOR RESOLVING ISSUES

Postby B1NZ » Wed Feb 25, 2004 10:15 pm

Isnt it about time we had some sort of way to get rid of people like Falco & Parker who come on here to piss people off and generally make an ass of themselves, I cant take credit for this idea as someone posted it in one of the other polls but,

Why dont we have a strike 3 system, 3 abusive comments towards another member and your out, its simple isnt it?

So what do you think?

Ps. Mods, this is a serious issue, not trying to get at anyone but its getting out of hand!

Its not quite this cut and dried.

Usually its

1 or 2 informal warnings.
1 Formal Warning
Suspension and/or Permanent Removal from the forums.

- and its only happened two or three times in total since we started.

Basically it depends on the severity of the offense and the attitude of the offender. One-size-fits-all doesnt work.

That said, Falco and Parker are both currently suspended.

I think that it does work actually. If you lay the rules down right from the start (as you have in the new members sign up form) then there's no excuse for any immature or abusive behaviour.

I think the process you've listed above sums it up just fine - should there be enough VALID complaints about a member, then it's the moderator/admin job to deal with an unsavoury part of the community. Thankless job yes, but much appreciated nonetheless.

The 3 strike rule works just fine on ClubSub - we had an issue with a new member basically swearing a lot in posts and attacking established members because their views were different to his/her. They got a warning, had their posts edited/removed, and have since cleaned up their act.

At the end of the day it's up to the mods to decide what kind of site they want to look after - one that treats everyone equally and without bias/disrespect and promotes good informative discussion; or one that allows juvenile behaviour to distort what could be a welcoming community.

I'm only posting on here because I met a friendly member (SEXYRZ), and because there is a decent level of intelligent discussion MOST of the time. If it gets worse, I'm outta here.

Please don't let the forums degenerate into slagging matches.
It's just not cool.

That is all well and fair to be said but you have to agree that this has happened b4 its not until one of you admin guys gets numerous complaints from the average joe about a certain person that admin are aware of before anything is done.

I personally think that there needs to be something changed i mean surely you guys dont like the fact that other car clubs see us as catty and rude??

I agree with B1NZ on this one there needs to be a more formal approach coz i dont think that i am the only one to think that its is poorly handled???

Other than the idiots that frequent these boards i love coming on here and being able to catch up with mates and events etc but it is a let down wen idiots like falco and parker have be allowed to do what they have been doing for so long now, and in the past its not just them that have been allowed to over run the board.

Its a shame really.

You havent obviously been here that long to know what has happened in the past, im not saying that is a bad thing however yes it is troo that mods can choose what site to moderate but they are not in charge of removing pple its the admin that are. Sure you can complain to mods but all they are gonna do is take it to the admin, i would think that if your really upset or pissed at how someone behaved why dont you take it straight to them coz then they get the story from YOUR side instead of thro someone else??

Trust me i know quite a few that are sick of the lack of maturity that comes up on the boards (including myself) that makes us/me want to leave. But then again i would miss my mates if i went :( most of them about 95% are great pple who would do anything for you :) all i am hoping is that someone sorts something out like i said in my previous post :)

La-Femme -

Theres two users with Admin rights - Wildcard and Myself - However we dont exactly want to be carrying the can all the time, besides which we have lives outside the forums and cant be everywhere at once.

Sooooo we let the Moderators help us out, many heads are greater than one.
If the other Mods reccomend to me that a user be suspended then i'll probably do it.

Huffer: I appreciate your position; if a formal disciplinary method becomes necessary then i'll be all for it...
However I've been harrassed in the past for 'power tripping'. It seems that TS members dont know what they want - a strong Moderator/Administrator presence, or a flexible one.

I like TS in part because it doesnt need a lot of Administration - or at least it didnt. The members are pretty well behaved in general - or WERE.
Recently it seems theres been an influx of losers and we've had to tighten our belts.

I'm still in favour of relaxed, common-sense-rules attitudes toward Moderatorship on the board. We take action when its necessary and try to keep the playing field level the rest of the time... hopefully this is sufficient?

Any feedback from members is greatly appreciated at all times of course - we're here to do the best we can for the club, after all.

Disclaimer: Thoughts here are mine and dont represent The Admins, Mods, or TS in general.

BJ.

hehehe well put :)

I understand that there are only 2 of u guys but what i was merely stating was that if pple have HUGE issues with someone they should just pm you guys straight off so u get the full story and not something half assed and broken down :D

I think it's a good idea!! But there are plenty of instances where we all make bitchy comments to each other on here and to outsiders could be mis-interpreted, therefore leading to an unfair suspension.

I think it should be based on complaints and the Admin's overall judgement.

The current system seems to be working, but it's just not efficient enough coz it takes too long for action to be taken.

Thank you brendon for defending me against Parker last night when he called me something really obscene! :) xxo

Yeah, it really just comes down to overall opinion, just saying 3 bad comments and you're out is a big broad, but I know what you meant! 8)

Isn't that what the PM function is for?

Surely the whole point of forums like these are to allow "outsiders" to partake in the discussion, without fear of being ridiculed?

There is a LOT of good information and discussion here, but frankly when I have to read thru half a page of slagging...well...you get the idea.

There is certainly scope for good-natured banter, and hassling, but anything beyond that is uncalled for IMHO.

I dunno. I'm just not the type to have a yelling match with someone in public. :?

the current system seems to be working pretty well, and as others have said, it takes a little while for there to be action.

although, that time before and action/warnings have been taken gives those people who are stirring time to make the decision if they want to hang around or not, some do wise up, others dont.... if they dont, they get the boot, which seems the case atm...

so yeah, the wait for action isnt really a bad thing...

i say, go the current regime! :)

yea i'm all for the disciplinary thing.

But the way i see it is 3 counts out won't work because there are allot of times when people abuse each other in the good sence of the word. If something like this ever came into place there shoud be a combined decision made from at least 2 mods wether or not the "culprit" is indeed having a bit of harmless fun or they are abusing other people purely because they want to stir shit.

good idea, got my vote. 2 or 3 expulsions since TS started is dam good, just shows what a great club this is. ive noticed while surfing nzhondas every now and then that have banned a hell of a lot more than that, its quite sad.
well done toyspeed.

i'll just sit on the fence...

i been an admin once, and i tell u, its a bloody hard job. u can't just kick people out because they swear and assault to other people. there is always exceptions. for example, there is a smart arse keep picking on u (but he never swore), and u got so furious, and swear on the forum multiple times. does that mean u r out? u c my point.

and everyone has the bad days. sometimes u just got psycho for some random threads that maybe u just happen to hate.

i think its hard to make a decision like that, let the admin review his/her motive and action and other stuff maybe is better IMO.

cheers

That was my point exactly! :D

Pretty much the current system, just with quicker action! 8)
