Cams for a 4agze ae92

Postby Fred » Fri Apr 09, 2004 11:40 am

Hey guys wanting to know if its a good idea to chuck in sum blu top cams from an fxgt into my ae92 sc?
From my understanding it shud increase the puling power up higher with a small sacrific down low?
i know sumone who put them in his and after a dyno run torque was way way smoother but a lil lower than before.

Any sugestions?

I asked this same question on Club4ag a while ago and heres the reply i got

"I would not bother with bluetop cams, don't waste your time. If you want to do it right, put some good quality aftermarket cams. "

I know Kelford do some cams for the 4agze maybe you should talk to them http://www.kelford.co.nz/

I got some reprofiled ae92 4agze camshafts that I put in my ae92 turbo 4agze engine. The engine revved heaps better that the original camshafts and the car was noticably faster but the car wouldnt idle very well and would splutter when driving at a constant speed. This was because the camshafts were affecting the vacuum which was playing havoc with the MAP sensor. My options were to get an aftermarket computer which would fix the problem or simply replace the cams to original. I took the latter option as after rebuilding my motor I didnt have the cash to put in a aftermarket computer.
If you are considering a new computer or have a AFM sensor, then reprofiled camshafts definitely supply easy power gains.
Mine are for sale $200 if interested. They cost $340 at kelfords.

its easy to change cams so will just try bluetop ones out and see what happens and if there is good gain may get aftermarket ones.

not really, to do it properly you will have to re-shim all the tappets, which is a pain, its not as simple as an out and in job

if you dont check the clearances then your selling yourself short (i wouldn't say your wasting your time but you wont get the most out of them), they might be sweet, they might not, and they will more than likely vary between cylinders, you will loose both lift and duration as the bucket isn't following the profile of the cam, its only being pushed down by the tip (extreme example i know)
