Busted slave cylinder

Postby Shotgun » Wed Jun 02, 2004 7:35 pm

Was bleeding up a brand new slave cylinder and it started pissing fluid out front rubber boot of the actuator.

There's no way I could have caused this right? Just a case of a faulty seals? Just checking before I go throw my weight around at BNT.

sounds like seals to me

BNT are scarily unknowledgable about brakes and clutches, it took me three goes of trying to buy brake lines for my series 1 seven before I said $&#$% and went to autopoint

Yeah, sounds like a faulty seal, although might pay to check there is even one in there, had a mate who bought a cylinder that didn't even have one...

Needless to say it leaked...

Thanks for your advice. Not to go on a BNT hate spree but they had incorrect listings for lots of the JZA80 clutch parts I enquired about aswell. Wrong sizes etc.

Hrmm I'll go and see them tomorrow and try to scam some free fluid from them.

im sure what alan has said wouldnt get him in any trouble with the law.
a professional outfit like bnt should be getting simple things like part listings/numbers right.

talking about companies that are crap, FREEFLOW still suck big floppy donkey dick.

Anyway... got my replacement slave. Bled it up. Pissing fluid out boot again. Before you ask, yes I've performed this task successfully before.

Can somebody confirm whether there's any possible way I could screw this up?

did the piston fall out at any stage? i've had one pop out before when the clutch fork is not holding it in... mine had a return spring behind it and nothing really holding it in so when the clutch fork was taken off the piston popped out and the rubber boot fell off too coz it was old and oil soaked. if you were to push it back in and the seal got damaged then yeah it could be you  they should have a circlip or something holding em in tho so not sure if this is any help. im talkin bout T50 or W5# box slaves here.

You do have the slave pushrod in there and it's the right length?

It was me. Piston was going ever so slightly past its 'point of no return' and busting seals. They turned out to be far more short-stroke than I anticipated. :D

I'll let this thread die to hide my incompetence. :D
