Possible engine conversions for a KP61 '83 RWD Starlet
Although I love ringing the *&^% out of the trusty 4K, I think I 'm in need of a bit more power... I was thinking of either a RWD 4AGE, 2T or a 12A rotor!!! Any opinons or help with the final decision would be awesome!!! What I'm basically after is a lot of power (naturally!!), with if possible the least amount of work/modifications needed (I'm aware there will be work needed, mounts, fuel, brakes etc etc), but I really can't avoid that ay?! And I really dnt want to go with forced induction either (insurance pple suck). Or, could anyone give me any ideas on how to supe up the 1300??? I've already got extractors, 2 1/2"free-flow exhaust (got a really nice rumble to it!!
) and a K&N filter... anyone??
Thanks heaps for any help people!!

Um, 4age Turbo? We've done a whole heap of these conversions into rwd starlets. 4age or 4agze, T50 Box, Hilux Diff. Ledge setup. If you want a 4age Turbo manifold yell out as we make these aswell.

Most engine you'll be able to get NA power out of is of course a rotary.
That said, 160-170hp out of a 4AGE NA (with std ecu), would be plenty fast in a starlet.
120hp in my KE35 with 2TGEU is plenty for drift, and i have standard springs, good shocks and bushes though.
So...... I would recommend bluetop 4AGE, with perhaps a turbo conversion by EP71-4age later on for more power.
2TG is a pretty tight fit in a starlet... not to mention a bit heavy for it. (20kg over 4AGE)

The ol' trusty blue top is hard to beat. Even in N/A form with the tvis ripped out (TVIS is for pussies!
) they go damn well. Guaranteed to blow starlet diffs

while the carbies do produce more power(apparently) unless you know wat your doing with them they are a bastard to tune well. at least with the injection setup you will have a car you can hack(still plenty of skid potential) and drive everey day (smooth too). and if you havnt done an efi transplant before dont worry there are plenty of us who have and will be glad to help.

kp engines
I'd say go 4AGE blue top with injection, cos the carbs are a bitch, but do give about 8-10hp extra over standard. but drive like a bitch and fully suck the gas.
apart from the 4age which is the Easiest to do imo. the rotor is always a good upgrade. but will need some fire wall cutting and opening up.
a worked 13b/12a will go harder than a 4agte (turbo on standard bluetop) but the 4agte will be way cheaper in the long run. !!
Ezy10s is a massvie source of info for the 4age !! hint hint

[quote="starlet drifter"]Swee, thanks for the help guys, looks like i'll b going with the 4AGE and a t50 'box! damn i cant wait!! All i need now is $$$$ (by the way, how much am i looking at, in terms of spending...?)
POCKET ROCKET!!!! damn straight be-arch!!!
the engines are easy to get as there are so many fwd ones around, the hard part is the t-50 with 4age bellhousing.... and the rwd ancillaries although you can boogy up the fwd bits to suit(just depends how fussy you are really)
approxiamately $1000 would see it together assuming you did the install yourself

[quote="Volatile"]sorry to bring this post of from the dead, but i've heard when you go for injected 4age in a starlet you need to move the brake booster?
Flat out lies you have been told. plenty o room for injection and booster etc

holy, i orginally posted this topic 2 years ago, and its still going... awesome. (man i sound like an idiot thou
)
well, i hav got everything i need, bluetop 16v, modded waterpump, R30 skyline fuel pump, K50 'box, custom alternator mount, throttle body swapped to other end of plenum and some ae86 extractors. Apart from the clutch which is coming next week, then i just hav to run a new bigger fuel line and wire it up.
see you
