A shimmed dif will be ok for drifting and burnouts but for real racing you can not beat a good TRD or similar unit. But for outright tough a G series is great. Heavy but strong!

its ok .. i understand you have put alot of money into your TRD LSD but how much money you spend on something does not necessarily make it a better item have you tried racing on a shimmed up G series ?

Screw turbo and go Formula Atlatnic :D
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

You obviously haven't priced any of that shiz out :?
You think the price tag for doing the turbo well is heaps?, I doubt you will get an atlantic speced short block for that

Although I really do love high revving NA engines

Yes! I have raced on a standard Hilux shimmed diff and a standard AE86 LSD, Nothing is as good as a quaility LSD! What you don't realize when you are shimming a diff you are just putting more stress on the poor little clutch plates. Depending on how tight it is shimmed you will either get a tight as diff that does not break away on turning(great for drifting but you might as well weld it up!) or when it does break away it will not lock up as quick and predictably as an LSD designed for racing. The end result being that you will $&#$% the shimmed LSD!
But if your happy with what you have then stick with it, but when you come to do some real racing, get some real 'gear'. :!: :D

There was an Atlantic engine for sale for 10G about a year ago! You would get no change from 25G if you wanted to build a full Atlantic motor!
You can still build a reliable 200hp N/A motor for 10G but it would be no good for anything but track work.
Atlantic motor would be the shit though.

Umm, i know of 220hp 4ages in rally cars and also you can get 200hp on pump gas if you felt that way inclined.

NZ_AE86 That wasn't an Atlantic engine. For starters it was running FI, individual throttle bodies, and a common airbox. It was also running a non spec dry sump pump.

4age's can develop some serious HP NA, but they tend to be highly strung engines that are more than a bitch to run on a standard road. My 176bhp (wheels) NA engine only comes on cam at 5.5k RPM. That sounds quite low, however when you sit there and wait... and wait to get power it's very annoying! I have a custom made close ratio box that suits it well, however I end up having to row the gearlever constantly! The advantage is that I get very predictable power (shyte loads) and I can race in NA classes. A true Atlantic engine would be even more difficult to control.

I'd simply turbo a standard bigport if I wanted a bit of cheap power on the road.
The answer is Helmholtz!

Sorry dude, must have been a different one that i saw, it was almost complete(only missing flywheel and clutch) , needed rebuild (at least rings and bearings maybe pistons too). Oh and I agree they would only be good for track work, far too peaky for anything else. I know you gear changing feeling too, we have a 190HP AE86 with a quaife dogbox, it is great but you are forever changing gears in it!

I have done some turbo engines and they go well but as you say N/A means you can race in class B.

Yeah, I would be keen to take you for some laps, but would it not be frowned upon at a drift day to not be drifting?
