4age turbo conversion??
Now I know this is talked about all the time, and I do know a bit about it, but I am still utterly confused when it comes to the 4age turbo conversion, basically everything I have read has said something different, most of the time contradicting each other.
So ALLL I want to know (preferably from someone who ACTUALLY knows what they are talking about, e.g someone who has done it) is what exactly is involved in converting a 16v 4AGE to a 4AGTE. What parts, and what needs to be done.
Thanks.

The best and cheapest way depends on what you already have.
Tell us what car it is going in, do you already have a 16v and what model it is, as they can all affect what's best for you.
What may be best for you to do may not be what was best folr someone else who started with a different model.

to answer your question, 4age 16v to 4agte
if you have a redtop one just fit gze pistons and rings, that up grades the internals to the exact same spec as 4agzes, then you carry on as if you had one to start with.
it can be a lot cheaper to do it this way rather than buy a 4agze cause they can cost over a grand, a redtop can be had for $3-500 and by the time youv rebuilt it and upgraded it to turbo you can spend as much as buying a ze but you will have a rebuilt engine that you can rely on

yeah agreed, dont waste your time changing to a 4agze, redtop is fine and with the ZE pistons theres a bit of extra security there.
If ya serious about this conversion and what good results and a reliable setup then make sure ya got some $$ put away for an aftermarket ecu. Links seem the common way to go, its tried and proven with good results.

Doesnt this screw up the compression ratio heapz.

By "redtop" do you mean the higher compression 100kw one with the oil squirters (like gze)?
Because the redtop tvis one like Ae92 Levin said he has, is basicly a bluetop but has 7 ribs (7?...) on the block but hasn't got oil squirters.
So wont be "exactly" like a 4agze bottom end if you put forged pistons in.
EDIT: unless you were meaning he should buy a redtop small port to swap for his current bigport tvis red/black top?

I'm a little new to turbos, so I have a few questions
Can anyone expand on results from different turbo applications ?
Using: AE101 4AGZE, VR4/similar Intercooler, Link, appropriate injectors
In a recent post I saw Jade list a few different turbos, that all work well.
What is more important for maximum acceleration, power over the rev-range ? or top end ? ..
-too big a turbo/too much lag and by the time the power kicks in its too late ?
-too small a turbo, not enough top end, get rheeled in
I know that its a trade off between reliability, responsiveness, ease of driving, VS power .. eg a small turbo tuned to ~240 HP would be nice.. easily rev'd.. and generally all around quick
.. but who wants deminishing top end ?
where is the happy medium for power/acceleration
if 300HP from a 1.6 is too annoying as a daily driver, and 240 isn't quite quick enough for the rush ? where's the happy medium ?
which turbo @ what boost ? I imagine smallest possible turbo (that can still achieve desired horsepower), with maximum possible flow, for quick response, spread power-band and hopefully good top end.
Pity the SC12 isnt efficent/effective.. linear power w/ natural low down torque = the shiz
I was thinking somewhere around 265-275HP .. responsive/easy to drive/still strong 1/4 time?
Which turbo is the best for a street-racer ?
How is a ball bearing turbo better ?
How important is the Intercooler application/piping ?
