ABS AE111

Postby HZRDIZ » Sun Aug 29, 2004 6:25 pm

Ok done a serch but cant find the answer im looking for...

Ok so some AE111s come with ABS, some dont. But does that mean that the ABS light should be there (ie there is place on the dash saying 'ABS') but whenever i turn my car on it never comes on or does a check or anything.

So basically asking if anyone else with a AE111 has noticed the same thing and know theirs doesnt have ABS but still has the light or because theyre all the same its just there to look pretty. Man i dont know if that made any sense...

yeah you confused me lol, If i correctly understood what you were trying to say then here is my answer:

Non ABS has the same dash with the same light, but the light wont glow when you turn the key on and do a check because ABS is not present.

If you have ABS and the light doesnt glow then you have a problem (although it most likely would be the bulb blown)

hopefully that helps

Just find a quiet street and slam on the anchors at 50 - if you got ABS you'll feel the pulsing, if you dont then dont worry bout the light :)

Not a reliable way of telling.

If the bulb has been removed because it had a fault in the system ( car dealer trick ) the car will have abs and the wheels will lock and you wont get any pulsing.

or a warrant!

if the light is there, it must work. simple. if it hasnt got abs it wont have a lamp.

if your unsure look under the bonnet, abs modules arnt easy to miss...

Depends where you go for a warrant.
Some warrant people are thick.
They failed Dads camry cause the odo had been wound back.

Turns out they were reading the tripmeter not the odometer on the digi sort where you have to press the button to switch between the two.

If you dont know what to look for under the bonnet easiest thing to do may be sent Mr Revhead you chassis and frame numbers and he can probably tell you if it has abs.

Where would this ABS module be under the bonnet?

Yes. Look for a alloy block with lots of steel brake pipes.

its at the front right of the engine bay, close to the headlight just above the radiator

That makes me a legend :D

And just because you have an ABS symbol on the dash doesn't mean you have ABS - some car makers use the same dash to cut down costs and simply hook up what they want to - or what the new owner specifies that they want.

On a plus side - if you're speeding and lock up and hit something and the police get involved - they cant tell how fast you were going because the ABS dont lock the wheels :D Cant tell how fast you go from pulses because every car is different :)

Yeah it's true as far as I know, ive had police tell me this and a mate get off a speeding charge because he had ABS - because every car has different interval of pulses, and different length of time for each lock up. Could be handy if you hit the back of something or wipe out and the cops think you were speeding.

Instantly you get off the speed.
