i went with the subbys boxer. distinctive, sounds beautiful.
it was a hard choice though.
love the sound of an 8 rumbling, and any Nissan RB series motor on boost sounds mint.

a guy from work also has a 3sgte which sounds great from outside, but the majority of 4ages i have heard with exhausts sound crap.

vtec induction noise is awesome. also the brap-brap-brap of a rotor can sound really nice.

for me a 1953 BRM V16 F1 car

http://members.madasafish.com/~d_hodgkinson/brm-V16.htm

buy nick masons/mark hales book 'into the red'
comes with a cd of the engine notes of all the cars in the book, the BRM is THE BEST sounding thing i have ever heard!! it really sends shivers down my spine.

the next best would be victor brays drag car,

http://www.victorbray.com/

that was prety cool! (and loud!)

then comes ferrari V12, TVR mmmm

im afriad most jappas are waaaay down my list... cept for a certain nissan patrol around here... got a nissan V8 in it and it sounds sweet

Well.... none of the choices do much for me except the rotary one, nothing at all sounds like a well-tuned 13B PP brapping like mad... my mate had one in his 323 and it was the most crazy-grin inducing engine note ever!

But my all time favourite is...

BDA Ford Escort, resonating through a forest/countryside etc as it comes towards you on a special stage on a rally pulling 9000rpm... oh $&#$% yes.

Also the Alfa Montreal I sat o the back of during a dyno run ranks up there.... they use a 2.6l quad cam V8... and this is the early 70s!! Sound of ripping silk... yes indeedy. 7000rpm V8s with VERY free flowing exhausts is a sound to behold.

As far as bikes go, for me the Britten V1000 always had it over the Ducati's, just so deeeeeeeeeeeeeeep you could feel it from the stands at Manfeild when it was blitzing down the back straight!

Oh yeah and the 1969 onwards Kawasaki Mach III 500 two-stroke triple, that thing sounds just so brilliant.

Mmm, Boost wrote:Pretty much any Japanese turbo inline 4 sounds tractorish (think 3SGTE, 4G63, SR20DET)

I dont care what anyone else thinks, but the quick brap of a PP motor really does it for me...when I first heard Stu Lawton's 323 fire up (I was approximately 5km's from the lock ups 8O ) it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

I do quite like the sound of a stupidly cammed V8 pretending to idle, and also EJ20's sound mean, especially with headers...yummy!

 exactly!!!!! that 323 was primo but i avnt seen it for ages!!!!

Not intending to offend here but...

Each to their own I suppose but the sound of a two-wheeled road-legal air compressor (aka Harley Davidson) almost makes me chunder!

The Japanese don't know how to do a great exhaust. Even an Italian saloon car exhaust will blow them all out of the water.

Anyone for an Alfa V6 (GTV6 or 75)?? Mmmm....

I like the sound of that fully worked jappa r34 godzilla on HO Overboost. The one wen they are just about to leave that track day and it comes out last phuckn hell that fings insane.
Also love oldskool mazdas, rollas toyotas eg: rx2,3,4,7, ke20,30 etc wiv a rotang in it wiv a big dumpie hangin out the back (not sure if its the sound of the engine really more the look of a nice oldskool car done up)
But v8's are still right up there nice growly sounding one!!!!
My uncle dons pontiac trans am drag car wiv a 455 big block i fink it is sounds mad screamin down the quarter.

but my fave by quite a long shot is my old mans 95 harley davidson softail custom sounds mad wen he wakes ya up early sat morning wiv the mad grumble of the harley. Sounds awesum (also had sum exhaust work to it)

Anyways that will do....

My Faviroute exaust note is the mitsi tractor sound, But i have to stay loyal to honda, so the runner up would be the honda raspy exaust note.
