Caldina GTT cambelt

Postby YTWGN » Tue Sep 28, 2004 3:52 pm

Just wondering what I should expect to pay to get the cambelt done on the wagon?

Any recommended mechanics on the nth shore?

Cheers,

I paid $280 to have my ST185 GT-Four Cambelt done by Giltrap City Toyota in Grey Lynn.

I imagine the ST195 or ST215 can't be that much different.

$280? was that labour alone? or just the belt?
its $230rrp in parts, belt, tensioner, tensioner pulley and idler.
$1000 is a bit steep.. they arent a hard thing to do! id have said $400ish inc gst would be an expected price.... thats 3hours labour and the above parts

hahaha

$300 is good, depending on what parts they are doing.

Just had a friend who's belt jumped after the tensioners siezed = they were not replaced when the cambelt was done, so make sure they're not skimping. Bugger for him was it's a toyota ute, with one of the few non-interference toyota engines :(

timing belt, $39.60 idler sub assy, $48.40. There is a toyota spec procedure for testing the serviceability of the hydraulic tensioner, so you shouldn't need to buy one of them, there is another idler bearing, but this is avaliable commercially, for $20 exact same part numbers, you just need to reuse the sleeve. There was no need to replace my water pump, as it was all mint.

so I'm not sure where $230 parts came from.....

My price was parts and labour.
$300-$400 is what i'd expect to pay for a GTT with all your bases covered,
In the end go wherever feels right for you, you gotta trust em to do a good job... rather quality over price...

If you're going to do it properly then you need to replace the cam belt(obiously), Tensioner & idler bearings. Oil seals(cam, crank & oil pump) And water pump if its cam belt driven. which i think it is on a 3SGTE.
If you want to save some money on parts come down and see me at APPCO on wairau rd or ring me on 4441313 ask for Carl. I'll give you a good deal and whatever parts you dont use you can bring back for credit. We do GATES cam belts which meet and usally exced OE specs.
There are lots of reputable garages on the shore like N/S auto centre, Aboutcars, PeterMark, Saunders, Causway, AJ's, Shell milford, Caltex LakeSide workshop. I deal with these guys everday and there are heaps i've missed. Who ever you chose ask me first and i'll tell you if they have a good rep or if they're doggie.

I paid around $900 when I did mine,
(although that includes some new headlights, TGP = bloody expensive)

transmission fluid changed, Front and Rear Brake discs machined + pads replaced.

that was all genuine toyota parts, through a dealership, keeping up with my warranty,

dont forget that you'll also need to replace your Spark plugs (every 100,000) if you sit with factory specs (and still have factory / standard plugs)

your filter will need changing,

+$50 - $60 oil, + $64 - $80+ for spark plugs

= $228 (on approximate prices)
