Oil in Black Tops

Postby dotdog » Sun Jan 30, 2005 9:37 pm

Hey all, just about todo my second oil change in my bzr levin, I put castrol magnatec in it last time which seemed to make the lifters a bit nosiey. What sort of oil does everyone else run in there black tops and do they have noisey lifters?

i run magnatec currently, doesn't seem to get used as much as other oils, so i'll be sticking with it. :)

oh dear.

toyota says a sg-sh multi grade oil.

how cold does it get there?

15-40 will do for most climates though.

There you go. Thats straight from the Black top service manual.

Buy a reputable brand and change as recomended.

If ya want to feel good about yourself buy a PAO fully synthetic for around $80-100 and change it at 1000k's even thoug it will more than likely last 30,000k's without degrading.

If you want to get fanatical about your oil then I would recomend either redline or amsoil. Get quality filters (oil, fuel, air) and change them every 6 months and get an oil sample analysed ever 10k or so.

and use a genuine oil filter 8)

the rattle will be the vvt pulley, very common

and to be helpful they run shim under buckets

also pro-ma won't fix that rattle

how the HELL do you check if it leaks @ 7000rpm?

your buddy revs it to 7 and you see the oil seep out......

with the oil i use i rev it out quite freqnetly (around 7k rpm in 1st and second... up to 8k in 3rd and above..)... and ever since ive changed my oil.... (3-4 months ago)... its gone down to half... but then again, i do give my car alot of shit ^_^.

well u detail the inside of the bonnet so it looks brand spanking new, go out for a test drive and then come back, finds out theres oil residue on the inside of the bonnet again... but its sweet up to 4000rpm.

Mine makes the 'ticking sound too' (I thought it was the tappets or a noisy injector - but who knows/cares).

I use magnatec & it seems to be fine (800mls oil to 2000kms - its high consumption but the 20V engine seems to go through shit loads of oil no matter what you put in it). It was 1L per 1000kms with GTX 15/40 before I switched.

depends how oftern you ring her out :).

any chance that at above 4k rpm there is enough vac to *suck* the fumes... and any splashing up oil into the intake... thus excess oil usage if you give it enough shit?
