Celica Oil Leak

Postby Caveman » Sun Feb 20, 2005 6:55 pm

Hi

I've got an oil leak in my celica. I know its coming from the rocker cover. Oil leaks out of a little hole which looks factory. Im going to take it off to have a look but I thought i'd ask first for advice. Its a 3SGE in a ST162.

Cheers

lol you might want to do somthing about the rockets first, they dont do any good inside an engine.

But on a serious note, where on the cam cover is it leaking? ie: where the covers meet the head, near the filler hole or what?

If you suspect it's the rocker cover, just replace that gasket and see what happens. Cheap as anyways.

They leak from there all the time... I have replaced "rocker" cover gaskets on my two celicas. Just a given that its goin to leak. They arent expensive and are simple to replace, you just need to know if its a one or two piece gasket from memory.

I have heard rumours that there is a flaw in the rocker cover on these models however I wasn't sure. Will ST182 covers fit? Or can I just stuff a piece bung in the hole to stop the leak? Or is that hole for breathing and if I block it there will be bad side effects.

Oh there is no leaking from the gasket, only a small amount of oil which is coming out of a small hole on the right side of the rocker cover next to the distributor. I wish I had a camera to take a photo, might try and get a hold of one.

My bad on the "rocket" typo

If it's not leaking a lot, I wouldnt even worry about it.
