smallport 4age + bigport ecu/tvis

Postby Truenotch » Thu Feb 24, 2005 7:55 pm

Hey does anyone know whether a bigport tvis will fit onto a smallport 4age. Im putting a smallport in my mr2 but don't want to have to get an aftermarket ecu or have to fit the ecu& wiring loom from the ae92 fxgt donor. I was thinking of trying to fit the tvis on without the actual tvis butterfly set up. Any help would be a big help as i want to get the car on the road asap.

No, it wont. I dont think the manifold will even bolt on, if it does the ports will be a mile off with or without the tvis plate.

Sweet as ill have to sort out a way of making it work. Thought it wouldn't fit. Do you know if the smallport manifold has similar ecu connections to the tvis one??? I think it would be a mission to get the whole loom out of the other car to fit that ecu plus i would have to do the bridging thing because the donor cars an auto......

On the other hand do you think the smallport motor would work on the bigport ecu/loom keeping the smallport intake manifold? I guess I'm wondering whether the loom connections are the same on the two manifolds.

Yeah the motor runs on a map not afm so im hoping the two will connect up. The other option i might use is to put the bluetop head (from the broken motor) on the strengthened bottom end of the redtop. with a mild skim on the head and a .5mm trd headgasket then i could use the tvis and standard wiring, while still having the strength. I think this would be a good option as long as the cams/valves etc are all ok.

I have a 100kw red top, and it was running very rich. So we tried using a blue top ECU, it worked fine. Didn't fix ma problem though

So you should be able to run it with the blue top ECU and loom

Zac, thats warped.
The redtop smallport has bigger injectors than the bluetop. So the bluetop ECU needs to fire the injectors for longer in order to inject enough fuel for the bluetop to run. When installed in the redtop it still fires the injectors for the same period but now has the bigger redtop injectors. IE it will run very rich.

Don't know what happened in your case Zac, but I've a friend here in CHCH swapped a bluetop ECU into a redtop smallport engine, he was forced to change the injectors as it ran stupidly rich.

it will run find with the bluetop ecu and injectors and sensors
just use all manifolds from the small port and also the fuel rail.
Doesnt run lean
makes good power could go as high as 90kw@wheels in stock form with this setup

I never said it ran well, I just said it ran. But you would have to use the blue top injectors, and other things like that... You could probably get it running in the end though.

i would use the smallport ecu but i don't wanna have to get the loom out of the other car (which is a corolla) and try and put it in my aw11 mr2. It would be too much of a mission unless the bluetop loom connects to the smallport ecu....

Well, the ecu plugs in, and most other stuff seams to. And I'm running a small port motor with a big port loom, it's not exactly running like a dream though... :(

I think it's still running the tvis ECU though, so it might explain some of it.

Got the motor home and have had a look at it. Seems the injector connections aren't the same, so i might have to use the bluetop ones unless i can change the plugs over...... not sure. But shouldnt be too long now hopefully

I had a small port in my celica awhile back running off the bluetop ecu and loom. all you have to do is change over the injecters and sensors and distrubuter and tps sensor for the bigports ones. so just change every thing electrical over and you can use your bluetop ecu and loom
