Flywheel on a 4age...

Postby LEVIN GTV » Thu Apr 07, 2005 5:13 am

Hey guys,

Thinking about getting a flywheel on my 4age.

Basically what should i look for?

What brands?

How exactly will a lightened flywheel effect the performance of my car?

What set ups do people currently have on their cars?

Any help will be awsome
Cheers All

I don't have much experience with lightened flywheels but I had some of the un-necessary weight removed from te outside of mine and the engine revs a lot more freely.
If you are wanting a really light flywheel I would suggest getting a specifically made light flywheel and not lightening a factory one. Not worth the risk of it exploding.

Less rotating mass, less intertia in the driveline. It will rev more freely, but you'll find it harder to get off the mark. This has been debated several times, you'll find a few threads using the search function.

And this is the one where some jackass tried to tell me I was confused, because according to him, auto's do have flywheels, right behind the flex plate

depending on ya clutch set up you could fit a blacktop one, they are the lightest of the stock ones.

if yougo too light itll be a pig on the road. cars have flywheels for a reason!

make sure you read those above threads properly, the first pages of some can be misleading....

No, it was locked because you spammed it with your know-it-all-ism.

well considering if that flywheel was stock in that mustang then there is no way it would handle 7800RPM !!!!! so that would explain the way it destroyed itself.

if you going that high in revs on a V* you need to go either billit or atleast custom no way a stock one will spin like that under that abuse!!!!!

and a lightened rotor flywheel will still weigh more than a V8 one LMAO there huge!!!!!
